There are more stories from that war than days in a life time...this is but one story.. I had a friend shot down while resupplying Khe Sanh who spent 3 days in the mud while praying, shooting, and eating mud until he got a ride out of that hell hole; he lost his religion in that war.

Khe Sanh was before my time but the stories from that operation were still alive in 69/70 for those who wanted to listen.

So me and my son were out walking late today , around 9 ish, it was dark out and we both saw a black shadow suddenly and ve fast flash by us. We both stopped and noticed it. I felt a sense of 'mischief' or 'giddiness' from it , if that makes sense. We turned around and nobody around us. 
By coincidence , we had watched the moon for a long time, or were weren't sure if it was the moon as it was very low and behind trees. It turned out it was the moon as a few minutes later it was higher and obvious.

And this morning we both woke up to an object falling sound, and nothing obviously had fallen.

The origin of the term "tree-hugger" is wild and bizarre.

Amrita Devi Bishnoi proclaimed: “A chopped head is cheaper than a felled tree.” As each villager hugged a tree, refusing to let go, they were beheaded by the soldiers. This voluntary martyrdom continued until 363 villagers were killed.



The killings were carried out on the orders of his minister Giridhar Bhandari. The effort had a long term impact on environmental advocacy, and the massacre later became known as a precursor to the 20th century Chipko movement. Due to the sacrifice of the protesters, the ruler took back his earlier order of felling trees.

In memory of the 363 Bishnois, who died protecting their dear trees, a number of khejri trees are planted around the area, which is still notably lush and rich with animal life. The Bishnoi sacrifices became the inspiration for a much larger Chipko movement that is still growing today, in which villagers physically embrace trees to save them from logging.

“This case is a great example of strong partnerships across the spectrum of law enforcement,” said Shane Watts, Special Agent in Charge of the Carolinas Field Office. “Army CID will continue to target those responsible for degrading the Army mission through criminal acts by conducting professional and comprehensive investigations.”

According to court documents and other information presented in court, on May 7, 2021, U.S. Homeland Security Investigations was notified by the French Customs Service stationed at Charles De Gaulle International airport that a package from Cameroon had been intercepted containing approximately three kilograms of ketamine.  The package was delivered to Gordon Ray Custis, then a soldier at Fort Liberty, at his home in Fayetteville, by Federal Task Force Officers with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

Custis pled guilty to possession with the intent to distribute ketamine and he was released pending sentencing.  While awaiting sentencing, the Army Criminal Investigative Division and Defense Criminal Investigative Service received information that Custis was laundering money.  The subsequent investigation revealed that Custis, acting in a leadership role involving co-defendant and others, laundered over $700,000.

On February 1, 2023, a second search warrant was executed at Custis’s home and investigators recovered 28.5 kilograms of ketamine, $164,200 in cash, digital scales and vacuums sealing materials.

Michael Easley, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina made the announcement after sentencing by U.S. District Judge James C. Dever III. The U.S. Army Criminal Investigative Division, Defense Criminal Investigative Service, Homeland Security Investigations, and Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case and Assistant U.S. Attorney Gabe Diaz prosecuted the case.
