Wheat is finally becoming a “sexy” crop after years of being the ugly duckling, says an analyst.


Stephen Nicholson, global grains and oilseeds strategist for Rabobank, said a series of supply side threats is making things exciting.


Canada’s crops are withering in the fields. MarketsFarm is forecasting 30.4 million tonnes of all wheat production, well below the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s latest prediction of 35 million tonnes.


The U.S. winter wheat crop was a disappointment, and the country’s spring wheat crop is suffering through dry conditions.

Conditions initially looked good in the European Union, but it turned hot and dry, and yields are shrinking.


“Australia is going to have a pedestrian crop this year,” he said during an interview at the Ag in Motion show near Langham, Sask.


El Nino could be wreaking havoc in India and Southeast Asia and China has quality problems due to harvest rains.


“You have to draw the conclusion that maybe the wheat crop is not going to be as big as everyone thinks it is going to be,” said Nicholson.


That is the exact conclusion being drawn by MarketsFarm analyst Bruce Burnett.
He noted during his AIM market outlook presentation that the USDA is forecasting 54.7 million tonnes of wheat ending stocks for the world’s major exporters in 2023-24.


That is a 4.5 million tonnes lower than last year.

However, Burnett feels the USDA’s production numbers are five million tonnes too high for Canada and three to four million tonnes overstated for Australia.
Argentina’s new crop is off to a poor start, while the USDA is forecasting a big rebound for that country.


“The market is reacting like there’s tons of wheat around and it doesn’t matter,” he said.

“But really, the situation is becoming very, very tight and it won’t take too much to tip it over.”


Nicholson said he would be getting antsy if he was a flour buyer because the milling wheat crops are in trouble in North America.


They can take some solace in the fact that the U.S. hard red winter wheat crop was averaging 13.2 percent protein as of July 14, which is above average.
However, due to the small HRWW crop, there will be a need to blend more spring wheat and it could be hard to find.


Burnett said the USDA is forecasting 11 million tonnes of Ukrainian wheat exports in 2023-24, but that seems doubtful now that Russia has backed out of the Black Sea Grain Initiative.


“There is limited opportunity to export via other channels,” he said.
Ukraine can move grain through the Baltic Sea via Poland or through Romania’s Black Sea ports.


However, those countries have bigger crops and are not interested in moving Ukrainian wheat through their ports.

Burnett believes Ukraine’s exports will fall two to three million tonnes short of the USDA’s forecast.


“If we get into a real missile-flying thing, it might knock out all their abilities to export,” he said.


Ukraine could also start targeting Russia’s ports, which could hamper that country’s ability to ship wheat around the world.


“The wheat market has not been pricing in any of the risks associated with this,” said Burnett.

Manger said his agency is addressing threats by expanding intelligence-gathering operations, increasing the number of investigative agents and working with state and local law enforcement.



“We need to do a better job at protecting members when they’re home, their families,” Manger said. “We’ve got to make sure that we’ve got security measures in place in home district offices, in homes, so that it raises everybody’s level of security.”

In the Air Force medical examination report pertaining to the incident, English alleges that the coroner remarked on the apparent surgical skill used to remove the organs—in particular that the anus and genitalia had been neatly extracted like a plug. Perhaps most puzzling was the fact that the body had been completely drained of blood, but surprisingly, there was no vascular collapse usually associated with death by bleeding.

The absence of excessive bleeding points to the deployment of a laser-like device that produces intense heat, cauterizing the edge of the incisions almost instantly.

Arms extended in front of the face and upper torso. Several quotes from the autopsy report could be a good place to start. “Where organs had been removed, there were tender areas in the axillary regions on both sides. The incisions were done on the face, internal thorax, belly, legs, arms, and chest.”

Garcia noted that the physicians had said that these wounds were quite unusual. The report further notes, “There are 1 to 1.5-inch diameter perforations on the shoulders and arms where tissue and muscles were removed. Both the size and the borders of the perforations were consistent. Due to the removal of internal organs, the chest had decreased.”

“You also notice the removal of the belly button, creating a 1.5-inch hole in the abdomen and a depressed abdominal cavity revealing the removal of the intestines,” the autopsy report reads.

The arm and umbilical holes previously mentioned are the same sizes as the hole in the left leg. According to the autopsy report, “It was an about 3 x 1.5 cm elliptical wound. There were no visible cuts, and the penis was extended. With a precise cut, the testicles were removed.”

According to the autopsy report: “A hole between the second and third toes and the removal of the anus… A significant incision of approximately three by 6 inches in diameter was used to retrieve the victim’s anal opening.

The human discharge system’s internal organs, including the rectum, were also removed. Through this incision, it’s possible that the man’s internal organs and even some of them were removed.”

Helsingin Sanomat has published grossly racist messages that Minister of Economy Wille Rydman allegedly sent to his ex-girlfriend. Rydman writes on X (formerly Twitter) that he is considering reporting the newspaper to the police.
The newspaper Helsingin Sanomat has taken notice of and published messages from 2016 that Minister of Industry Wille Rydman (Sannf) is said to have sent to his girlfriend at the time. The messages are permeated with racist language.
Rydman has neither given a comment to Helsingin Sanomat nor to Yle Uutiset, but he has expressed himself on X.
"Desert Monkeys" and "Somali Lilies"
When Rydman is said to have sent the messages, he was 30 years old and a Member of Parliament for the Samlingspartiet. He also sat on both the constitution committee and the administration committee.
The messages are thus all from a conversation between Rydman and his ex-girlfriend. She is the one who shared them with Helsingin Sanomat.

In a conversation about flower planting, Rydman compares the lily of the valley to Somalis: " But when that damn lily of the valley has once been planted here on the plot, it is suddenly everywhere and reproduces like Somalis. So if you want Somali lilies of the valley in the flower bed, there are enough here, and they can be moved.”
In other messages that Rydman allegedly sent to his girlfriend, he called people from the Middle East, or other people of other ethnic backgrounds, " incomprehensible monkeys" and "desert monkeys" .
In the same year, it was reported that employers in Belgium might ban Muslims from wearing headscarves in the workplace. According to HS, Rydman commented on the news like this: "I would still rather ban those who use a headscarf than the headscarf itself" .
Shared Islamophobic lyrics
Besides that, Rydman also shared racist content created by others, including a rewritten version of Jukka Kuoppamäki's 1970s song Sininen ja valkoinen . The true Finnish 21st century version is about a Muslim who has left his homeland.
It is the true Finnish Member of Parliament Juho Eerola who is behind the new lyrics, which he has also confirmed to HS.
While Kuoppamäki's original text celebrates Finland's nature, Eerola pursues the beliefs of a Muslim immigrant and claims that he has raped a woman.
In 2016, Eerola was chairman of the management committee, where Rydman then represented the Samlingspartiet as a member. Eerola is said to have given the text to Rydman written down by hand on the back of an agenda.
According to HS, Eerola sees no problem in the fact that the lyrics were copied either before or after a committee meeting where the two men, among other things, dealt with draft laws regarding international protection, victims of human trafficking and the Aliens Act:
"We have artistic freedom, of course you can write," says Eerola to HS.
Calling himself a Nazi
In an exchange of messages between the then girlfriend and Wille Rydman, the girlfriend writes that she "secretly likes Hebrew names" and that she would like to name a future son Immanuel in other names.
To that Rydman replies:
"We Nazis don't really like that Jewish stuff."
Yaron Nadbornik, chairman of the Central Council of Jewish Congregations in Finland, commented on the HS article on Thursday evening. On X, he writes that he and the Jewish community have never received anything other than support and help from Rydman.
"It pays to look for Jew-hatred elsewhere. Rydman has been our friend for several years and in my opinion he still is.”

Considering a police report
Wille Rydman does not want to comment on the messages to either HS or Yle. On X, he still writes that he does not want to explain away messages that he may have sent several years ago, because that would legitimize the article and the publication of the messages.

Rydman also writes that he is considering taking the newspaper to court over the article. It wouldn't be the first time.
The police are currently conducting a preliminary investigation into an investigation request submitted by Rydman. Last year HS published an article about harassment allegations against Rydman . Then, among other things, they had interviewed the same ex-girlfriend who has now shared the messages with them.
Purra: A politician also has his private circles
True Finns' chairman Riikka Purra tells Yle Uutiset that Rydman's messages are irrelevant, but that it is a matter of a private conversation between two people who were in a relationship at the time.
"I neither can nor want to take a position on something like that. A politician is a public figure, but also has his private circles," Purra writes to Yle.
According to her, it is clear that the goal is to harm Rydman, given previous experiences between the parties involved.
