Over the past year I’ve floated the idea of sortition with a number of current members of Congress. Their immediate concern is ability: How do we make sure that citizens chosen randomly are capable of governing?

In ancient Athens, people had a choice about whether to participate in the lottery. They also had to pass an examination of their capacity to exercise public rights and duties. In America, imagine that anyone who wants to enter the pool has to pass a civics test — the same standard as immigrants applying for citizenship. We might wind up with leaders who understand the Constitution.

A lottery would also improve our odds of avoiding the worst candidates in the first place. When it comes to character, our elected officials aren’t exactly crushing it. To paraphrase William F. Buckley Jr., I’d rather be governed by the first 535 people in the phone book. That’s because the people most drawn to power are usually the least fit to wield it.

The most dangerous traits in a leader are what psychologists call the dark triad of personality traits: narcissism, Machiavellianism and psychopathy. What these traits share is a willingness to exploit others for personal gain. People with dark triad traits tend to be more politically ambitious — they’re attracted to authority for its own sake. But we often fall under their spell. Is that you, George Santos?

In a study of elections worldwide, candidates who were rated by experts as having high psychopathy scores actually did better at the ballot box. In the United States, presidents assessed as having psychopathic and narcissistic tendencies were more persuasive with the public than their peers. A common explanation is that they’re masters of fearless dominance and superficial charm, and we mistake their confidence for competence. Sadly, it starts early: Even kids who display narcissistic personality traits get more leadership nominations and claim to be better leaders. (They aren’t.)

If the dark triad wins an election, we all lose. When psychologists rated the first 42 American presidents, the narcissists were more likely to take reckless risks, make unethical decisions and get impeached. Add a dash of Machiavellianism and a pinch of psychopathy, and you get autocrats like Putin, Erdoğan, Orbán and Duterte.

Eliminate voting, and candidates with dark triad traits would be less likely than they are now to rise to the top. Of course, there’s also a risk that a lottery would deprive us of the chance to select a leader with distinctive skills. At this point, that’s a risk I’m willing to take. As lucky as America was to have Lincoln at the helm, it’s more important to limit our exposure to bad character than to roll the dice on the hopes of finding the best.

Besides, if Lincoln were alive now, it’s hard to imagine that he’d even put his top hat in the ring. In a world filled with divisiveness and derision, evidence shows that members of Congress are increasingly rewarded for incivility. And they know it.
A lottery would give a fair shot to people who aren’t tall enough or male enough to win. It would also open the door to people who aren’t connected or wealthy enough to run. Our broken campaign finance system lets the rich and powerful buy their way into races while preventing people without money or influence from getting on the ballot. They’re probably better candidates: Research suggests that on average, people who grow up in low-income families tend to be more effective leaders and less likely to cheat — they’re less prone to narcissism and entitlement.


Switching to sortition would save a lot of money too. The 2020 elections alone cost upward of $14 billion. And if there’s no campaign, there are no special interests offering to help pay for it.

Finally, no voting also means no boundaries to gerrymander and no Electoral College to dispute. Instead of questioning whether millions of ballots were counted accurately, we could watch the lottery live, like we do with teams getting their lottery picks in the NBA draft.

Other countries have begun to see the promise of sortition. Two decades ago, Canadian provinces and the Dutch government started using sortition to create citizens’ assemblies that generated ideas for improving democracy. In the past few years, the French, British and German governments have run lotteries to select citizens to work on climate change policies. Ireland tried a hybrid model, gathering 33 politicians and 66 randomly chosen citizens for its 2012 constitutional convention. In Bolivia, the nonprofit Democracy in Practice works with schools to replace student council elections with lotteries. Instead of elevating the usual suspects, it welcomes a wider range of students to lead and solve real problems in their schools and their communities.

As we prepare for America to turn 250 years old, it may be time to rethink and renew our approach to choosing officials. The lifeblood of a democracy is the active participation of the people. There is nothing more democratic than offering each and every citizen an equal opportunity to lead.

Defendants Belyea, Allen, and Schott-Deputy were allegedly involved in the June 29, 2019 attack on Ngo, in which he was brutally beaten by a mob of alleged members of Rose City Antifa while reporting on an event in Portland, Oregon, according to Ngo's complaint. This attack received national attention and is most commonly referred to as the "milkshake" incident. Ngo was left severely injured and was admitted to the hospital as a result of this attack, which caused a significant injury to Ngo's brain.

According to Ngo's civil complaint, the three defendants were allegedly involved in a physical attack on Ngo, in which he had been assaulted with thrown projectiles that included "milkshakes" and containers, in addition to being punched and kicked. The defendants, along with other alleged members of Rose City Antifa, had also struck him on the head and face with plywood hard-edged sign placards and carbon-hardened tactical gloves. Video of this brutal attack was submitted to the court by Ngo's attorney, Dorothy Yamamoto, as evidence during the hearing.



Ngo testified that the attack had caused significant emotional distress and trauma which impacted his ability to work in the field as a ground reporter and videographer. The journalist explained that he had to undergo physical and cognitive therapy following the attack, and was left with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The incident also reportedly left Ngo with short-term memory issues, Ngo testified.


Investigative journalist and Post Millennial senior editor Andy Ngo released a statement following the judge's ruling in which he expressed gratitude for the decision and vowed to continue to hold Rose City Antifa and its affiliated members accountable for their alleged physical attacks on him.

The UN is Building a “Digital Army” To Fight What it Calls “Deadly Disinformation”

In order to justify as much as it can this considerable shift in policy and focus from UN’s traditional operations and purpose, the UN article doesn’t talk only about things like undermining epidemic(s)-containing efforts, protecting scientific truths and facts (and, as recent experience has shown, “facts” as well ), and the like.

To prop up the argument, it is claimed that the peacekeeping work itself, and the safety and lives of peacekeepers are also falling victim to “large scale misinformation.”

During an appearance on the "Thought Project Podcast" in 2022, Drabinski claimed that those who try to get particular books removed from library shelves are "angry, White mob parents" that "don't want Black people, Jewish people, gay people to exist at all." 

"So, it's very scary and very violent and super organized," she added. "And I think, that's the thing that's most frightening to me."

In several interviews and articles ranging from recent to 15 years ago, Drabinski outlined how she envisioned reshaping libraries.

Drabinski said that libraries are "good places that do all kinds of things that people on the right don’t like" during an appearance on the "Citations Needed"[i] [/i]podcast in March 2023.

The contentious library chief's views appear to have remained consistent throughout the years. In a 2008 article titled "Queering Library Space: Notes Toward a New Geography of the Library," Drabinski said that the aim is to make libraries "a space based on an ideology that centered notions of queerness and difference rather than of democracy and citizenship."

This collective kept themselves to themselves and were reluctant to interact with outsiders. If it hadn't been for a chance
meeting with a local Gnome, the little sorceress taking a short-cut to Cumberland Howe would have continued on her trek
where awaited a quiet bay with it's rolling dunes and wild orchards of peaches.

Domby Crustop had invited the ambling woman of the pleasant attitude for a brew of dandelion tea before commenting
about a dilemma currently on Elmer's property. With an empty cup and teapot, the little Witch had thanked the old Fae
for his hospitality and decided to see if she could help. After all, country-folk were always welcoming.

"Barn good place for Witch" the humourless farmer said plainly and pointed a pudgy finger towards a well-constructed

a upper room and the familiar coned roof adhered to the Banyards' manner of construction.

Did this place of temporary lodgings bear a connection to the miscreant that had supposedly brought trouble to Elmer's
residence? The loft would make an ideal position to monitor the farm yard and apart from the fruit-laden pear tree directly
opposite the barn's window, an elevated view of the meadows could well assist in finding what was troubling this offbeat
family.

Turning back to scutinise Elmer's dopey-looking face for his reasoning, Peggy failed to attain anthing to indicate that the
sheep-herder arrived at the same conclusion. "Er, Aye... it'll be a canny place te' watch fur' yer visitor" she agreed and
deliberately left any enthusiasm of her response.

Elmer Banyard, a surname all the community used, remained like one of Calder's Way's signposts for a few moments
before nodding his accord. But Peggy felt it a fair wager that the dumpy-shaped yokel could've been merely dislodging
an inquisitive fly from his floppy hat instead. Waiting a moment in case Elmer had merely forgotten to herald the names

guest's better judgement. Peggy had sipped her sweet beverage before finally shrugging. However, inwardly, she felt the
baneful human-faced canines weren't the culprits.

Now surveying the palatial accommodation of the barn, she absently wondered if Elmer and his brood had any insights
to what had attacked his livestock. Stepping over the threshold of the would-be watchtower, Peggy's musings focused
on the huge animal snoozing beside a hay-filled manger.

A Bumpy Ride

Draw back from the scene and understand that the sheer heaping-up of procedural legal bullshit in the various sham court cases against candidate Donald Trump is largely an attempt to confound, mystify, and preoccupy the public while the great scaffold of our national life collapses. The news — both legacy and alt — will be dominated day after day by analyses of every move and counter-move through endless thickets of courtroom minutiae while the US economy crashes and burns, residual wealth is confiscated, and the American social order turns into something like fiery goo.

      By November of 2024, somebody will be elected president, or no one will be. At this point, it is probably down to an election that more than half the country won’t believe in, or no election at all due to civil chaos so extreme it will make the 1861 weeks of secession look as tame as a middle school fire drill. Beyond the hamstringing and hog-tying of their chief adversary, the Democratic Party lawfare necromancers have set up the gameboard with surpassing precision so that their opponents will never be able to win another election. Yet, they are so self-satisfied as to apparently think no one noticed. (We’ll be coming for you, eventually, Marc Elias.)

As to the parsing out of all those bogus charges against Mr. Trump, consider that we now live in a culture of no truth, only battling portfolios of narrative spin, at least according to the Marxian wokesters who have seized the machinery of law, so, there, with a snap of your fingers goes jurisprudence — as in: I swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, blah blah…. The joke is on you. There is no truth, anymore, so stop insisting that there is anything like it to determine, except whatever outcome the Party of Chaos seeks.

The suspended animation of August with its sand castles, lobster rolls, and care-free cocktail cruises will soon yield to the season of hurricanes, financial fiascos, momentous military movements, and reversals of political fortune. What, for instance, becomes of “Joe Biden,” the fictitious president, and that claque of grift-bedizened relatives around him? I’ll tell you one thing: no way is this fellow running for reelection, and the mighty pretense around that hallucination makes idiots of everyone on cable TV news. Somebody has already slipped Ol’ “Joe” the black spot. Dr. Jill has crawled into a bottle. The “Big Guy” is just sulking now, drowning his sorrows in ice cream — but his fate hangs there above the Rehoboth dunes like an ominous black sea-bird suspended on an ill wind, mocking him. You have finally screwed the pooch, Joey, it cries… caw caw caw….

We are thus close to the moment when impeachment can no longer be dodged. The reams of Biden family bank records that Mr. Comer of Kentucky has unearthed hither and yon, plus deal memoranda, video and audio recordings of dark confabs, and hundreds of tell-tale emails are of a different evidentiary nature than the roster of hypothetical thought crimes confabulated by Jack Smith, Alvin Bragg, and Fani T. Willis. Personally, I would like, at least, to see impeachment hearings where all that hard evidence of Biden family bribery is methodically laid out for The New York Times and CNN to ignore. It will look like a game of chicken for a few days, but then the party honchos will “sadly” order Ol’ Joe to step aside before that grim spectacle goes too far.

The Ukraine War will then be Kamala Harris’s to lose — depend on it — though nobody will care. I have a feeling that Barack Obama will not be able to… how shall we say… work with her. All that cackling must conceal an inner vacancy so vast that Judge Crater, DB Cooper, and the brigantine Mary Celeste might be roaming around in there, along with Amelia Earhart, Jimmy Hoffa, and the Lost Colony of Roanoke. And I cringe to imagine the meetings with Kamala where Susan Rice, Lisa Monaco, and Torie Nuland try to tell the poor simp what to do. It will look like one of those girlie beat-downs on an Oakland street-corner.

     Anyway, by that time the stock markets will be all a’crumble, all those Vanguard retirement funds will wash-up like so many writhing grunions on Cabrillo Beach, and your local bank will cap withdrawals at $500 a few weeks before executing the long-rumored bail-ins. At that magic moment, the Democratic Party will have everything it has wished for.

     Of course, I can’t say the melodrama will play out exactly like that, in that sequence. But expect trouble in September. Expect disorder like you’ve never imagined. Think about retrieving whatever cash you have in the bank. Consider arming yourself for safety’s sake, if you live in a part of the country that allows it. Or maybe even if you live in the other parts. Lay in some beans and rice and some batteries. Buckle your mental seat belt. When August is over, it’s going to be a bumpy ride.
