The once high-flying Utah entrepreneur Joe Firmage has a lot of financial problems right now.

As Bloomberg reports, tech pioneer Joseph Firmage is being sued by people who invested in his anti-gravity quest, which coasted for way too long as his wealth and success dwindled in the face of the former digital guru's obsession with UFOs and aliens.

In the 90s, Firmage was living the dream after becoming an executive at Novell, the company credited with making local area networks (LANs) scalable, at the tender age of 23. After leaving to found the digital design company USWeb, Firmage was named one of Forbes' "Masters of the New Universe" toward the end of the decade — but his success was squandered after he claimed he'd been visited by an alien being who revealed that computer chips came from extraterrestrial technology.

Yes, you read that right. By 1998, just a few years into his tenure as USWeb's CEO, Firmage was asked to resign — and at that point, the "Fox Mulder of Silicon Valley" had little stopping him from taking his outrageous contentions even further.

With his mainstream reputation and career summarily squashed by his intergalactic claims, the still-young tech master began the new millennium surrounded by a new crowd: true believers and other hangers-on who were drawn to his alien attestations and bold vision for a future with clean and limitless energy and an anti-gravity propulsion system, as Bloomberg recounts.

In the ensuing decades, Firmage — the great-grandson of a Mormon apostle and the son of a well-connected military man — faded away from the national imagination even while getting more and more people to fund his science fiction dreams. Deploying his family's powerful background, the disgraced tech icon promised folks like Brandy Vega, the owner of a Salt Lake City production studio, that major military investments in his antigravity device were imminent.

Over the years, as Vega told Bloomberg, the woman and her husband gave the charismatic computer con nearly $100,000, sometimes in installments as small as $200 that he needed for various doodads and repairs. When the couple became concerned that they were being bilked, Firmage would send one of his bigger investors — who Bloomberg did not, unfortunately, name — to smooth out their anxieties.

By 2023, investors like the Vegas began asking for their money back. Firmage, who was also mounting an unlikely presidential bid, promised in a group text thread from July of that year that "Payments and Grants outbound expected to commence this evening." In the end, no such reimbursements materialized — and some of those investors have now filed suit against Firmage, alleging that he conned them out of tons of money.

Not long after that exchange, Firmage was remanded to jail in Salt Lake County after being arrested for elder abuse amid allegations of financially and physically cutting off an 80-year-old woman he was living with — and who had been his late father's romantic partner — from her family and basic necessities like food and water.

By the time Bloomberg got hold of him in October 2024, Firmage had been in that same county jailhouse for nearly a year, with courts saying that if he was released, he'd likely take up the abuse again.

When the outlet spoke to him, the former web wizard seemed much worse for the wear even by his previously kooky standards. He insisted that he could not "admit to a financial crime, because I didn’t commit one" and that he was in jail because he had been — apologies in advance — "gang-raped by an AI-equipped Jamaican financial crime syndicate."

Between the civil suit by the jilted investors and the criminal elder abuse trial, which has not yet commenced, Firmage may owe millions and be behind bars for a long while. If his alien consiglieres are real, now would be a great time for them to contact him.

I'm a big fan of the science fiction television series Fringe, as most regular readers here know.  For those who do not know the show, it revolves around various science fiction themes,  including parallel universes collapsing into each other, and things like mind manipulation, "dream connectivity", and so on. All of this is is tapped into by (and as it turns out, is in most cases created by) the show's mad scientist, Dr. Walter Bishop.   Again, for those who don't know the series,  Dr. Bishop is truly and legitimately mad - insane - having spent seventeen years in a state mental asylum until "rescued" by an FBI agent, and by his son. Dr. Bishop's madness, however, is not that of a Peter Lorre or a Boris Karloff, but more a kind of humorous relief; it's madness of the eccentric not of the criminal.

I mention all of this because one theme that extends throughout a few episodes is the relationship between mind and consciousness, memory, and the world of our dreams. Dr. Bishop has, for example, performed experiments on recovering memories from corpses (yes you read that correctly), to actual dream transfer from one person (often a corpse but not always) to another, living, person.  All this brings us to today's story shared by M.D. (with our gratitude).  This story appeared last October in The New York Post, but the subject itself concerns this Fringe-like area of dream transference, or as the article puts it, "chat between two dreaming humans."

The company claimed the participants were sleeping at their homes on Sept. 24 when their specially developed “apparatus” remotely tracked their polysomnographic data through WiFi — recording their brain waves, blood oxygen levels, heart rate, and breathing during sleep.

After the company’s server detected that one of the candidates had entered a lucid dream state, it generated a random word and repeated it to him via earbuds.

The company has not shared the word, which was allegedly only known to the participant and repeated in his dream state, but his response was then recorded and stored on their server.

Eight minutes later, the second candidate entered a lucid dream, and the server transmitted the stored message to them, which they repeated upon waking up — marking the first-ever “chat” exchanged in dreams.

“Researchers at REMspace have achieved a historic milestone, demonstrating that lucid dreams could unlock new dimensions of communication and humanity’s potential,” the company said about last month’s experiment.

Lucid dreaming occurs when a person is aware that they are dreaming while asleep. According to the Cleveland Clinic, it usually happens during REM sleep, when the most vivid dreams occur.

Now for those who have been following my own speculations about mind manipulation technologies and research, this opens up intriguing "high octane speculation" possibilities and implications. In my book Microcosm and Medium I pointed out that beginning in the 1970s (and probably secretly some years before), experiments were being done to create "electroencephalographic dictionaries" as I called them: literally mapping the brainwave patterns of hundreds of people reacting to specific spoken words. These waves were then "averaged" to produce a brainwave template of that particular word, and over time, the number of words that were mapped into this electroencephalographic dictionary grew from a few thousand to an extensive vocabulary. Then the experiment was changed: could these brainwaves of specific words be modulated into microwave (radio) signals and be beamed into an individual's brain, thus achieving the "voices in the head" phenomenon: actually having conversations with "people who are not there", and in the nature of the case, driving some people mad in the process, or at least, getting them to question their sanity. These experiments were also allegedly successful.

But in this case the brainwave response of to the word was recorded, and that that response was transmitted to another dreaming person. Note that in this experiment, that both participants were in the very deepest dream state, suggesting the next stage to the project: can the same template of a word be transmitted without the physical connection of the server? And if that should prove to be the case, what is the mechanism of transmission?

These types of experiments, believe it or not, were performed in the old Soviet Union (and in particular in the 1970s), and by other countries in the old Warsaw Pact, most notably in Bulgaria and Czechoslovakia.  I mention this because in the Soviet research, the preferred model for this information transfer - given its official promotion of Marxism's dialectical materialism - was via some subtle and unknown electromagnetic means. So the Soviet researchers did what any scientific team would do: they tested that hypothesis by isolating their dreamers in Faraday cages, and over some hundreds of kilometers separation from each other.  The results were significant enough to suggest that subtle electromagnetic transfer was not the mechanism or medium involved.

All of this  brings us back to Dr. Walter Bishop in his laboratory in the series Fringe. In one episode he is hooking up a living participant to a recently deceased corpse, and "tuning" them via a deep sleep state like REM sleep, until their brainwave  patterns match, as he has done on many other occasions in the series. On one such occasion he remarks that his some of his experiments were based on experiments done behind the Iron Curtain, to which he adds the very discomforting and disquieting comment, "You wouldn't believe what those Pinkos were up to!"

Actually, I would believe it, because apparently that type of research is being done now, by various private interests in the heart of "technocracy", the area are Silicon Valley, California. Or perhaps we might call it SillyCon, Looneyfornia, for the experiments that we know about are being performs on people in their dreaming state... giving yet another curious twist to all those practices of traditional piety, asking for protection from evil influences and temptations while asleep, and most vulnerable.

Now imagine all this, taken to the next step, beyond electroencephalographic dictionaries, to the whole constellation of non-verbal things, like tastes, sensations, sounds, smells, and the rationale behind those old practices become even more understandable.

The rabbit's foot is considered a good luck charm due to a blend of ancient superstitions and folklore. The belief in the rabbit's foot as a lucky charm is thought to have roots in African American folk magic, known as hoodoo, and may have been influenced by European traditions as well. According to folklore researcher Bill Ellis, the rabbit's foot represents a dead witch, neutralizing any threat it might pose.

In some cultures, the rabbit's foot is believed to bring good luck because it is associated with the dead body of a criminal. For example, former President Grover Cleveland received a rabbit's foot taken from a rabbit killed on the grave of Jesse James, an American outlaw, because it was believed that the more wicked the person who is dead, the more effective the charm associated with his remains.

The rabbit's foot is also linked to the European good luck charm called the Hand of Glory, a hand cut from a hanged man and then pickled. This connection suggests that the rabbit's foot could be a substitute for a part from a witch's body, further supporting its role as a protective talisman.

The specific attributes of the rabbit's foot, such as being the left hind foot of a rabbit killed in a cemetery under certain conditions, add to its perceived luckiness. These conditions include being taken by the full moon, on a Friday, or Friday the 13th, and sometimes shot with a silver bullet or cut off while the rabbit is still alive.

Common Side Effects is a gripping drama-thriller that delves into the dark side of the pharmaceutical industry and the hidden truths behind modern medicine. The story follows a brilliant but disillusioned scientist who stumbles upon a groundbreaking discovery—a rare magic mushroom with the potential to heal diseases, regenerate cells, and even extend human life. However, as he attempts to share his findings with the world, he quickly realizes that powerful corporations and government agencies will do anything to keep his discovery buried.

As he fights to expose the truth, he becomes entangled in a dangerous conspiracy involving medical cover-ups, secret experiments, and a world that isn’t ready to be healed. With its themes of suppressed science and corporate greed, Common Side Effects has become a favorite among conspiracy theorists, leaving fans questioning how much of the story might be closer to reality than fiction.

The Apkallu, or "sages," were legendary figures in Mesopotamian mythology, often depicted as hybrid beings with human bodies and the heads of birds or fish. These semi-divine entities were seen as bearers of wisdom, entrusted with sacred knowledge that encompassed medicine, astronomy, magic, and the arts. They served as intermediaries between the gods and humanity, guiding early civilization in matters of science, law, and spirituality. The Apkallu were considered protectors of divine order, ensuring that knowledge was passed down through generations to maintain balance and prosperity.

Among the Apkallu, the Seven Sages hold a particularly significant role in Mesopotamian tradition. These figures were believed to have been sent by the god Enki (or Ea) to instruct early humans, particularly the first rulers of Sumer. The sages are often associated with the earliest kings, bringing them wisdom that helped establish the foundations of civilization. They are sometimes connected to the legendary city of Eridu, one of the earliest Sumerian settlements, which was seen as a center of divine knowledge. The names of these seven sages appear in cuneiform texts, linking them to specific rulers and attributing to them teachings that shaped society.

Later Mesopotamian traditions, particularly during the Neo-Assyrian period, transformed the image of the Apkallu. While they remained figures of wisdom and protection, certain texts suggest that some of them rebelled against divine authority and were punished by being cast into the underworld or transformed into demonic figures. This shift reflects a broader evolution in Mesopotamian religious thought, where once-revered beings could also be seen as sources of potential danger if their knowledge was misused. Despite this, the Apkallu remained powerful symbols of enlightenment, influencing later mythological traditions, including biblical and esoteric texts.

Their legacy endures in art and literature, where they are depicted in temple reliefs, clay tablets, and protective amulets. The Apkallu represent humanity’s ancient quest for wisdom and the belief that knowledge was a sacred gift, meant to guide civilization toward order and understanding. Their mythos continues to inspire modern interpretations, connecting ancient teachings to contemporary discussions on wisdom, divinity, and the responsibilities of those who possess great knowledge.



The Apkallu bear striking similarities to the stories of the Nephilim found in biblical and apocryphal texts, particularly in their role as powerful, otherworldly beings who impart knowledge to humanity. Like the Apkallu, the Nephilim are often depicted as the offspring of divine entities and mortals, possessing extraordinary wisdom and strength. In the Book of Enoch, the fallen Watchers—angelic beings who descended to Earth—taught humans forbidden knowledge, much like how the Apkallu were said to have instructed early civilizations in the arts, sciences, and spiritual matters. These parallels suggest a recurring theme in ancient traditions: the idea that advanced wisdom and knowledge were gifts from celestial beings, but that such knowledge could also be dangerous if misused.

Stories of divine or semi-divine beings guiding early human societies appear across numerous cultures, from the Egyptian Thoth and the Greek Titans to the Mesoamerican Quetzalcoatl. These myths suggest a universal fascination with the origins of human wisdom and the belief that knowledge itself is both sacred and transformative. Whether seen as benevolent guides, fallen angels, or tricksters with their own agendas, these figures symbolize the dual nature of enlightenment—both as a means of empowerment and as something that can disrupt the natural order. The recurring nature of these legends across time and civilizations points to a deep-rooted human longing to understand the origins of knowledge, the role of higher beings in shaping history, and the thin line between enlightenment and transgression.

The "death of the ego" refers to a transformative psychological or spiritual experience in which a person temporarily loses their sense of individual identity, often leading to a feeling of unity with the universe or a deeper understanding of the self.

According to Carl Jung, ego death can be part of the individuation process, where a person integrates their unconscious mind with their conscious self, leading to greater self-awareness and personal growth. Similarly, transpersonal psychology explores ego dissolution as a way to transcend personal limitations and reach higher states of consciousness .



Shadow work, a term popularized by Jung, involves confronting and integrating the unconscious parts of the psyche, including fears, traumas, and suppressed desires. Ego death plays a crucial role in this process by dissolving rigid self-identities, allowing individuals to see beyond their conditioned beliefs.



Though the process can be unsettling, it is a powerful tool for self-transformation. Those who integrate their ego death experiences often report a greater sense of inner peace, purpose, and authenticity.

In The Ego and Its Own, Max Stirner critiques the ego’s dominance, and Freud’s psychoanalytic theory suggests the ego mediates between primal desires and societal norms. When the ego dies, the illusion of separateness fades, and with it, the selfishness that breeds greed, envy, and cruelty. In this state of surrender, the individual no longer acts from fear, insecurity, or the need for dominance but from a place of unity, compassion, and peace. The death of the ego is not a loss but a liberation—the end of inner conflict and the beginning of true selflessness.

Noem did not specify the number of individuals involved or which agencies they worked for, but earlier this month she accused the FBI of leaking plans for large-scale immigration enforcement operations in the Los Angeles area.
The Los Angeles Times published a report based on a leaked internal memo detailing plans for a “large-scale” ICE raid. Noem vowed to take action against the leakers who undermined federal efforts to enforce immigration laws.

“The FBI is so corrupt,” Noem wrote in a Feb. 9 post on social media platform X in response to the LA Times story. “We will work with any and every agency to stop leaks and prosecute these crooked deep state agents to the fullest extent of the law.”
The FBI dismissed Noem’s allegations.
“Making unfounded allegations calling FBI agents corrupt is deeply irresponsible and has not been supported by any evidence to date,” the agency said in a statement.
Earlier this month, President Donald Trump’s border czar Tom Homan blamed news media leaks for hindering a large-scale immigration operation targeting members of the Tren de Aragua (TDA) gang in the Denver suburb of Aurora.
Homan said that details on the operation had been leaked and published media reports indicated that the raids were imminent.
“This isn’t a game,” Homan said. “We know that TDA is dangerous. Everybody can agree to that, but when they get a heads-up that we are coming, it’s only a matter of time before our officers are ambushed. Their job is dangerous enough. So we are going to address this very seriously.”
Attorney General Pam Bondi warned that there would be consequences for any individuals who divulge such sensitive information.

Coming in Part 2: the war will turn to the Indo-Pacific as China eyes Taiwan.

The ideas presented in the Gateway Process document align with the concept that we may be living in a simulation, or at the very least, a reality structured by consciousness rather than material laws alone. If reality is a universal hologram, as the document suggests, then everything we perceive is simply a projection of a higher-dimensional information field. This aligns with simulation theory, which posits that our universe may be a constructed experience, much like a computer program running on an advanced system beyond our comprehension. Quantum physics supports this idea through concepts like wave-function collapse—where particles only take definite states when observed—suggesting that reality isn’t solid until consciousness interacts with it.

In a simulated reality, our physical existence would be more akin to a highly advanced virtual experience, where consciousness is the primary player rather than the body or brain. If thoughts and intentions can influence reality, as the Gateway Process suggests, then this could be evidence that we are "programming" our own experiences within a larger system. This could explain why altered states of consciousness—such as meditation, near-death experiences, and psychedelic states—often lead people to perceive realities beyond the physical world, as if they are momentarily stepping outside the confines of the programmed simulation. Similarly, phenomena like synchronicities, déjà vu, and the Mandela Effect could be glitches or intentional adjustments within this structured reality.

If we are in a simulation, then the tools outlined in the Gateway Process—such as hemispheric synchronization, deep meditation, and focused intent—may be methods for "hacking" or transcending the limits of the programmed experience. Just as a video game character might find a way to bypass certain constraints in its world, humans may have the potential to access deeper layers of existence beyond what our senses normally perceive. This could mean influencing probability, shifting timelines, or even interacting with the "architects" of the simulation. Whether or not we are in a literal simulation, the fact that consciousness appears to shape reality suggests that we have far more control over our experiences than traditional materialist science has led us to believe.



The Gateway Process document provides a framework for understanding consciousness as a force that can manipulate and transcend reality. Whether or not we are in a literal simulation, the techniques described—such as brainwave synchronization, meditation, and OBEs—offer a way to explore beyond conventional perceptions of existence. This challenges the materialist view of reality and opens the door to a model where consciousness is the true foundation of existence, potentially operating within a vast, structured simulation.
