Greetings everyone.  I've been with ATS since 9-11 under a couple of different names but gave up once it became the Biden/Covid/Trump show with few, if any, stories of bigfoot being found working at a deli in New Jersery.  

I thought going back a few weeks ago but, like everyone else here, I see that ATS is a dumpster fire and will be no more in a matter of time.

I'm not one to post too often but I'll do my best.  Where else can I find anything of interest online anyway.

So sorry I was gone for a long time. Since my husband passed away (November 1, 2022), it's been almost a year. Quite a bit has changed with me in that year. I started working part time, as a crossing guard. I like it as it gets me out of the house a couple of hours a day, fresh outdoor air, and I get to interact with children. I also needed some additional income, as I lost my husband's social security since I'm under the age of 60. 

I've been to bereavement counseling through the hospice of the hospital my husband passed at. I also joined a grief support group (Griefshare), for a few months, and even got some counseling through the VA. Eventually, that all stopped. I've filled my time with activities, and am keeping busy. It is helping, but not gonna lie, the last year has been horrendous. Within days of my husband passing away, one of my best friends passed away. Then one of the guys who came to my husband's funeral, who was very supportive of me, dropped dead at the age of 56. His wife found him at home after she returned from work. Heart attack. So young. Another friend has since passed away in the last couple of weeks.

I feel like all I do lately is go to funerals. Grief has been a bitch. So many times, I've been knocked on my knees. But I'm very stubborn. I will always get back up, even on days when it's hard just to get out of bed in the morning. I will persevere. I intend to live a full life full of joy and possibilities. God, my husband, and I all want that for me. 

The coming year may have bigger changes. They say not to make any major decisions in the first year. I may be selling my condo and moving, possibly out of state. I haven't even told my family this, much less anyone else. I feel comfortable sharing that with you all though. So many things about me have changed. What used to bother me a lot sure doesn't anymore. I try not to take anything for granted. It can all be lost so very quickly. 

There has been joy too. My husband's oldest granddaughter is pregnant with baby #2, going to be a boy. She already has a daughter, about a year old now. I messaged her recently after she tagged me on Facebook with news of the second pregnancy. She told me she wanted me to know right away because she considers me one of her grandmas. That was so awesome to hear. My niece had her first baby back in May. I'm now a great auntie to my first grandniece. My nephew and his wife are expecting a baby, so I'll either have another grandniece or grandnephew. 

I know the old adage "Life is what happens when you're making other plans" is true.

As an old student of history, I’ve got  a copy, of course, of Henry Kissinger’s White House memoirs. All three volumes. I’ve learned a lot of things from the great master of modern diplomacy. One of them is the value of being a mediator between two powers in a region. If you can broker an agreement between them, they are both accepting your authority, up to a point, and you have become in effect the diplomatic boss of the area.
 
That’s what he was achieving for the United States in the Middle East in the years following the Yom Kippur war. In theory, disengagement was being negotiated “under the joint auspices of the United States and the Soviet Union” at a conference in Geneva. In practice, Kissinger was doing his best to keep the Soviets out of it, as Sadat shrewdly noticed (I was hoping to quote that conversation, but I can’t track it down quickly enough). The strategy of his “shuttle diplomacy” was to make the Arab nations aware that he alone could “deliver” concessions from the Israelis. If the Arabs wanted any kind of settlement, they worked through him or not at all. That is how Kissinger succeeded in making America the diplomatic “boss” of the Middle East for several decades. That policy has now broken down, certainly in the present century.
 
A few months back I noticed a news story to the effect that China had brokered an agreement between the long-term rivals Iran and Saudi Arabia. This should have set off alarm bells in the conspiracy theory community, but apparently it didn’t. The story has been buried in other news. I bet Henry Kissinger noticed.
 
I don’t often make predictions, but let me do a little predicting now. Let us suppose that, out of the blue, China comes forward with a peace initiative in the Middle East, promising that they will be able to hold back Iran and Hamas “and sitchlike” from their attacks on Israel and the West providing that Israel consents to certain restrictions. If Israel is obliged, in the end, to consent to a Peace Settlement on Chinese terms, that would be the first Chinese diplomatic coup.
 
If China went on to do the same thing, arranging a compromise agreement in the war between Russia and the Ukraine, that would be their second diplomatic coup. Such an agreement might call off the Russian attack dogs, while denying the Ukrainians access to the Crimea (to which, to be fair, they have no historic claim. Crimea was always the land of the Tatars).
 
Future historians might recognise the Peking Peace Settlements of 2024 as the moment when China became the diplomatic boss of the world.
