A thought regarding the "Others".
A lot of people tie 1947 in with the (then-) recently exploded atomic bombs. The idea being that lighting the Atomic Match alarmed the entities of other worlds who scurried over our way to see what was going on.
Sort of a dumb idea when one thinks about it. I mean, aren't most stars just contained nuclear explosions of a MUCH larger magnitude than "Fat Man" and "Little Boy"? So why would our relatively puny a-bombs be such a big deal?
---
But then, we have the notion that the "Others" are actually not extraterrestrial, but, as Mac Tonnies called them, "Cryptoterrestrials" -- another civilization on earth that has hidden itself from humanity.
Hmm.
Well, now the idea of the "Atomic Match" being lighted makes a LOT more sense. If they're on this world with us ... oh HELL YEAH they take interest when we start popping a-bombs and later, thermonuclear weapons.
Something to consider.
Cheers
