Winter is coming? Appears a supervolcano I never heard of may go boom soon with the possibility of causing havoc and a decade of winter. 

Quite a few stories on it. First I heard of it.

Scientists are raising concerns about a supervolcano in Italy which is “on the brink” of erupting for the first time since 1538.


Campi Flegrei, also known as Phlegraean Fields, is an area of supervolcanic calderas in Naples, Italy.
If it did erupt again, it could plunge the world into a global winter. An eruption of the scale last seen in 1538 would also result in 100-feet tsunamis and the expulsion of volcanic gases into the stratosphere.

The results would kill wildlife and crops across the world, and the possible impacts have been explored in the new journal Communications Earth & Environment.


"Our new study confirms that Campi Flegrei is moving closer to rupture,” said lead author Professor Christopher Kilburn (UCL Earth Sciences).

Mauro Antonio Di Vito, director of the INGV’s Vesuvius Observatory, expressed concern about the evacuation from the local area.

i've wondered what roadkill roo, wombats ,koalas, or those weird ass looking turkeys you guy's got ain't they called cassowaries taste like. i've heard those birds are mean ass little bastards.

Common in my neck of the woods are Eastern Grey roos, wallabies, odd potoroo.  No emus, turkeys and cassowaries.  Haven't seen Koala kill about here and large goannas are run over infrequently.  

I have seen the odd scrub turkey and have seen it tits up on the road.  Rabbits and Hare are rare but they are reemerging here.  Some small turtle on occasions.  

In taste I prefer bush turkey, emu, goanna, turtle, rabbit, hare.  Boiled up they all smell nice in the pot.  Always has the dogs interest.  Possum, well, depends what they have been feeding on but their fur is put to use. I now prepare snake with the skin on but gutted.  Saying that I cut the snake into cutlets/slices.  Skin peels off when cooked.

Just driving along the road this evening I saw 2 roos off to the side obviously cleaned up by a truck.  Because of the nature of the drive I had to pass them up but may check those roadkill in the morn.

May I recommend jerking the roadkill sand then smoking it for preservation? In the event of grid-killers like solar flares or nuclear holocaust, you won't have electricity for the freezer, and in the event of volcanic or nuclear winter, you won't need it... but jerked and smoked meats last for friggin' ever!

Yeah I got that Nin.  My comment was tongue in cheek so to say. (The Bundaberg Rum does that to you) I do like making smoked and jerky meats but only fresh meats and added flavours/spices.  

I have a freezer with prepped items which isn't connected to power.  I used it as a sealed airtight storage but only for emergencies.   My larder is reasonable size and cool in summer to cold in winter. 

There is a lot of roadkill about here, mostly the native animals.  Generally leave that to the crows and ants.

I actually took the best out of those vids you posted regarding preserving meats etc and the building of a good smoke house (still a project).  I am not really in a rush.  What ever will come I don't know but generally these predictions end up with everyone dying save a few.  I ain't in that few category as we would only last a couple of weeks at most.  That's reality.  Just prolonging the survival enough to perhaps carve your initials in a rock or stump.  Or so I believe,, if some of these predicted events come to fruition...  But I keep smilin mate as we make life as comfortable for us 2 in the bush.  That's all we can do.
