Regarding repair, I think most of them are too fragile to repair, they have little to no substance or structure. I believe what they do is replace an individual section. They're completely modular, so they go together (or fold out, depending on the type), and they just replace one of these sections. In the long run, it's probably cheaper and less hassle. Also less risk to astronauts for repeated unnecessary spacewalks. Spacewalks, even though very common, are still pretty risky events.
