A bomber mission of seven B-2 Spirit bombers and more than 30 Tomahawk Attack Missiles fired from an Ohio-class guided-missile nuclear submarine struck three Iranian nuclear sites at Natanz, Isfahan and Fordo, Pentagon officials confirmed on Sunday.

“In total, U.S. forces employed approximately 75 precision-guided weapons during this operation. This included, as the President stated last night, 14 30,000-pound GBU-57 Massive Ordnance penetrators, marking the first ever operational use of this weapon,” Caine told reporters at the Pentagon.

The group of seven B-2s flew a route over the Atlantic, across the Mediterranean Sea, into the Middle East, aided by a fleet of KC-135 and KC-46A Pegasus aerial refuelers that were prepositioned to support the long-distance round-trip. Once in U.S. Central Command, an unspecified number and types of fourth and fifth-generation U.S. fighters joined the bombers before entering Iran, Caine said. The fighters targeted surface-to-air missile sites ahead of the B-2s’ approach to the two hardened nuclear enrichment facilities at Natanz and Fordo. Iranian air defense systems have been heavily degraded by ongoing Israeli strikes that began on June 13.

The U.S. also sent a separate group of B-2s west in a decoy mission, flying from Whiteman over the Pacific. More than 125 aircraft were part of the mission, including intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance and refueling aircraft, Caine said. It’s unclear whether any aircraft came from the Carl Vinson Strike Group. Carrier Air Wing 2, embarked on USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70), includes a squadron of fifth-generation F-35C Lightning II Joint Strike Fighters as well as a squadron of EA-18G Growler electronic attack aircraft used to suppress enemy air defenses.

A single U.S. submarine, which Caine did not name, launched more than two dozen Tomahawks on the nuclear facility at Isfahan after the B-2s dropped their ordnance. USS Georgia (SSGN-729), which fields more than 150 TLAMS, entered the region in September, USNI News reported at the time.

Ohio-class sub had to be one of the Four Horsemen of Tomahawkalypse - the USS Florida, USS Ohio, USS Michigan, or USS Georgia. Each capable of launching up to 154 Tomahawk's in 6 minutes. Serious firepower depending on warhead used.


I have my doubts on this "obliteration far below ground level" and it may not matter if the story about missing 400 kilos of enriched uranium are true.
