I'm still at a loss to understand why people are so invested in proving that it did or did not happen. I don't understand what difference it makes. It was just short of 56 years ago. We went (or not) looked around (or didn't) and said "there ain't nothin' here, and no one can survive here, anyhow", and then lost all interest in manned space exploration from that point forward.
