Feb. 22, 1950: Other Planets Send Saucers, Navy Man Says.
TRUE magazine publishes a follow up article by an active duty Navy Cdr. Robert McLaughlin claiming in the March 1950 issue that scientists at White Sands Proving Ground had tracked a UFO at escape velocity (the 18,000 mph speed was actually orbital velocity and was merely assumed, not tracked or measured by Charles B. Moore, in the April 24, 1949, incident). McLaughlin states he believes UFO's are extraterrestrial. The Air Force views this as another Navy attack on the Air Force.
