Germany is infamous for its laws addressing slander and libel. The stinkiest part of them is that they are usually used by the elites to punish anyone who dares mention them in less than shining terms.
Most European governments are police states but they don't look it because there aren't bunches of nightstick wielding cops on the streets beating people up. Regardless, the European peoples understand there are many things they can't say in public.
