I think of the "holiday spirit" as a real thing regarding Christmas. The "air" is "pregnant" with possibilities.
In Europe, the holiday lights remain on until Three Kings' Day, after which they are extinguished, which feels like the "spirit" is banished / shut out for another 11 months or so. In our material world, it is a passing odd thing, as the first three months of the year, being so dark, are in dire need of illumination.

There was one place in Germany, a literally dark wood, that always had an oppressive feel to it. No idea why, but photographs there were difficult to take because the images were always so dark, even at high noon.
At Ninurta -- would love to see the photos of that portal you mentioned.
