This is probably the best advice I've come across! You just gave me the idea to try drawing outdoors while visiting the park. There is a pond I've grown fond of visiting, sometimes the ducks come up to people and stand still, staring at them. I won't be able to go there again until next week. I'll be sure to let you know how it goes.

Like your patient, I also suck at drawing, I struggle with drawing proportions.
I recently received a copy of Audubon's Birds of America as a gift, I've been trying my hand at tracing and managed to get the proportions right for once. Napkins come in handy for when you want to just copy from existing artwork, easier to see through.
