I suspect the key to Kissinger's diplomacy was U$ foreign aide.  'sign this and we'll give you an additional dozen tanks'.  I wonder if Beijing is subsidizing Iran?

China seems to have a lot of fingers in a lot of pies.

I don't think their neighbors like them.  Taiwan, Japan and the Philippines are aligning closer to the US these days.  I don't know that China has any real friends in Asia.

ol farty, pooh xi, and iatola assahola are the new axis of evil with china behaving / pretending like their the good guys. mark my words china is gonna stab everybody in the back just as soon they think the time is right, they play the long game.

I think China is working towards what Victorian Britain had. Control of strategic points on sea-routes. Semi-control of strategic markets and resources.
