A kind of Mandela effect ? - F2d5thCav - 01-25-2026

So here's another confused (?) memory.

People of a certain age will recall the disinfection products that were called Mercurochrome and Merthiolate.

My parents used both of them on me and my siblings to disinfect cuts.

Now, I distinctly recall that Mercurochrome was quite mild in how it felt when applied.  Merthiolate, on the other hand, burned like someone had put a match to one's skin.  And of course, Dad loved Merthiolate, believing the burning sensation meant it actually 'worked' and that Mercurochrome was simply colored water.

But now I see on the babblenet articles claiming that Merthiolate was the mild product.

Anyone here ever use these products and have memories as to how they felt when applied ?

MinusculeCheers

Both were used on me as a kid, but i don't recall any sensations from either one. Then again, I don't experience pain in the same way that most people do, so I might not be the best lab rat to test them on.

I have a sister that used to scream bloody murder whenever she got painted up with Merthiolate, but we found out later that she has allergies to damned near everything up to and including some bath soaps, laundry detergents, and even surgical tape, so she might not be the best guinea pig to judge by, either.
