Boston Herald columnist Howie Carr raised the alarm over the state’s move to push illegal immigrants into people’s homes, and he especially worries about the safety of homeowners who were being asked to take in unknown, unidentified, and unvetted illegals.

“Joe Biden et al. have turned what was a decent, if woke neighborhood, into a Bidenville. The illegals are up all night, driving their unregistered scooters everywhere. Needles litter the gutters. The illegals are harassing young American girls and ‘verbally abusing’ adults,”Carr noted in an August op-ed.

This prompted Carr to ask, “Can the residents of, say, Dover or Weston choose between a MS-13 gangbanger and a member of Los Trinitarios?” as he bashed the liberal areas of the state for cheering as illegal aliens are placed in the middle and low-income neighborhoods.

For those who don't know, the Texas National Guard took over an area where Border Patrol removed barriers, cut the wire and pretty much allowed a flood of migrants in. 

This blocking new Democrat voters will not not be tolerated. The Biden admin is threatening action / arrests for daring to enforce the actual laws of the nation.

Texas has said its move to seize control of Shelby Park and ban federal agents from the area through armed soldiers, fencing and razor wire is designed to deter unlawful crossings by migrants. It's the latest flashpoint in a yearslong political and legal feud over U.S. border policy between Republican Gov. Greg Abbott and President Biden, a Democrat.

Over the past three years, Abbott has taken unprecedented and controversial steps in response to what he has deemed to be a lackluster effort by Mr. Biden to contain record levels of migrant crossings. Under his direction, Texas has bused tens of thousands of migrants to Democratic-led cities, arrested thousands of migrant adults on trespassing charges and fortified the Rio Grande with razor wire and floating barriers.

But Texas' effort to physically block federal agents from processing migrants in a public park that covers roughly 2.5 miles of the U.S.-Mexico border is arguably the state's most drastic action yet. 
In his letter on Sunday, Meyer noted the federal government is the one tasked with regulating immigration, including the inspection, processing and arrest of migrants who enter the U.S. without permission. Texas' seizure of Shelby Park is obstructing federal officials from carrying out these obligations, he said. 
"State law cannot be applied to restrain federal agents from carrying out these federally authorized activities," Meyer added.
Meyer also noted that some of the areas Texas had commandeered sit on federal land. He said a 2015 agreement between the city of Eagle Pass, which oversees Shelby Park, and Border Patrol guarantees federal officials access to the park's gates. Some of the barriers used by Texas to seal off the park are owned by the federal government, Meyer added.
Last week, the Justice Department alerted the Supreme Court of Texas' actions in Eagle Pass as part of a case over a lower court ruling that barred Border Patrol from removing the razor wire the state has placed along some sections of the U.S. southern border. The Justice Department is asking the high court to suspend that ruling, saying it prevents Border Patrol from processing and rescuing migrants already on U.S. soil.

FAA’s diversity push includes focus on hiring people with ‘severe intellectual’ and ‘psychiatric’ disabilities

The FAA, which is overseen by Secretary Pete Buttigieg's Department of Transportation, is a government agency charged with regulating civil aviation and employs roughly 45,000 people.

All eyes have been on the FAA and airline industry in recent days after a plug door on a Boeing 737 Max 9 blew out during an Alaska Airlines flight on Jan. 5. The FAA grounded all 737 MAX 9 planes after the incident and is carrying out "extensive inspection" and maintenance work.


The FAA added it would increase its oversight of Boeing in the wake of the incident, including auditing Boeing's 737 Max 9 jetliner production line and companies that supply parts to the airline manufacturer.
Following the incident, social media commenters and public figures have said that airlines and airline manufacturers' emphasis on diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives has made flying less safe.

"Do you want to fly in an airplane where they prioritized DEI hiring over your safety?" tech billionaire Elon Musk wrote on X last week. "That is actually happening."
"The DEI Rot In The Airline Industry Is Way Worse Than You Think," Daily Wire commentator Matt Walsh wrote in an op-ed last week.
Critics of such commentary have pushed back on the argument that prioritizing DEI has made traveling less safe, with civil rights groups slamming Musk, for example, for the "abhorrent and pathetic" tweet.


On the FAA’s website, the agency states that people with "severe" mental and physical disabilities are the most underrepresented segment of the federal workforce.

"Because diversity is so critical, FAA actively supports and engages in a variety of associations, programs, coalitions and initiatives to support and accommodate employees from diverse communities and backgrounds. Our people are our strength, and we take great care in investing in and valuing them as such," the FAA reads.

When asked for comment on the initiative, including what roles people with disabilities would fulfill, the FAA told Fox News Digital that the agency thoroughly seeks and vets qualified candidates "from as many sources as possible" for a range of positions.
"The FAA employs tens of thousands of people for a wide range of positions, from administrative roles to oversight and execution of critical safety functions. Like many large employers, the agency proactively seeks qualified candidates from as many sources as possible, all of whom must meet rigorous qualifications that of course will vary by position," the FAA said.

Dr. Stanley Goldfarb, chair of Do No Harm – a group of health care professionals, medical students and policymakers working to "protect health care from a radical, divisive, and discriminatory ideology" – told Fox News Digital that similar to the medical field, the aviation industry has an obligation to protect its travelers.

"The aviation industry has a responsibility for traveler safety just as the health care industry has a responsibility for patient safety. These responsibilities outweigh other factors when considering applicants to work in those fields. People with disabilities who can successfully complete the task should never face discrimination," said Goldfarb, a retired professor and the former associate dean for curriculum at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.

"Unfortunately," Goldfarb said, identity politics is "creating opportunities for so-called oppressed groups by lowering standards for entry into those fields and thereby endangering the safety of those which it’s designed to serve. The FAA's website outlines that some managers can hire disabled people and veterans through an "On-the-Spot hiring process," providing required documentation is submitted.
The FAA also notes that employees with disabilities will be provided "reasonable accommodation" on the job.

Reasonable accommodation at the FAA "ensures that employees with disabilities have access to accommodations that suit their needs. This can include modifications made to existing facilities or special equipment," according to the website.

Scientists in Iceland want to drill a hole into a magma chamber about a mile underground in an attempt to generate limitless energy.

The Krafla Magma Testbed (KMT) aims to create the world's first research center above a magma chamber to monitor, sample, and test the molten rock in situ for the first time.

The center, it hopes, could offer unprecedented insights into how volcanoes work and open new avenues for limitless geothermal energy.

Magma within the Earth is the last unexplored frontier," KMT's Hjalti Páll Ingólfsson, told Business Insider.

Research into magma chambers is crucial. These pools of molten rock, located in the Earth's crust, can create volcanoes if they find a way to reach the surface.

But they are fiendishly difficult to locate with surface equipment and hard to track ahead of an eruption.

"We don't have any direct knowledge of what magma chambers look like, which is crucial in understanding volcanoes of course," Paolo Papale at Italy's National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology in Pisa, who has written on the subject, told New Scientist.

In 2009, scientists identified a potential candidate about 2.5 miles underground near the Krafla in Northern Iceland. So they started drilling.

But about a mile into their descent, their drill got stuck. It's only later, when it came back up carrying shards of volcanic glass, that they realized what happened. They had accidentally poked their head into a magma chamber.

The scientists managed to make a few measurements, but eventually, the wellhead became too warm to operate, per New Scientist.

They decided to pour cold water into the well to cool it down, releasing black, billowing clouds that destroyed their rigging.


Now, 15 years on, KMT wants to drill into the chamber again — but this time it wants to be able to stay, with the help of a few clever engineering tricks.

If it is successful, KMT could offer a whole slew of new insights into volcanic activity, Gluyas said.

"From a scientific perspective, being able to sample an active magma chamber would give you a whole lot of information, which is normally excruciatingly difficult to obtain," said Gluyas, who is the president of the Global Geothermal Energy Advancement Association.

After all, most of what we know about volcanoes is what we see on the surface.
But by the time molten rock turns into lava, it has lost a lot of the gas that propelled it up to the surface, so we know very little about magma composition before it erupts.

"I'm sometimes insulting some scientists when I say that basically everything we know about inside of a volcano is kind of a guesstimate — an educated guesstimate of course," said Ingólfsson.

Sampling and monitoring the magma directly could shed crucial information on what it's made of, and hopefully help us find ways to track its path underground. The glassy rock created when freezing the magma could also be a gold mine of evidence, as it could contain bubbles encapsulating the precious magmatic gases, per Gluyas.
There's loads of fundamental science which will come out of it and there'll be unexpected bonuses, but there is a practical piece of this, which is better understanding of the way the Earth behaves and therefore better preparedness for potential natural disasters," said Gluyas.

KMT plans to drill a second hole dedicated to geothermal research.
Ingólfsson expects one well on a magma chamber could be as productive as 10 other wells elsewhere.

Not only is it very hot down there, but the magma also changes the composition of the rock, which KMT believes could make harvesting geothermal energy more efficient.

"The source of geothermal is always the magma and getting closer to magma is obviously a higher efficiency," said Ingólfsson.

Their research, he said, could inform new ways to collect geothermal energy.

KMT hopes to break ground on the first hole into the magma chamber in 2026. But it still has a long road ahead.

WASHINGTON, Jan 13 (Reuters) - U.S. President Joe Biden said on Saturday the United States does not support the independence of Taiwan, after Taiwanese voters rebuffed China and gave the ruling party a third presidential term.
Earlier in the day, the Taiwanese ruling Democratic Progressive Party's (DPP) presidential candidate Lai Ching-te came to power, strongly rejecting Chinese pressure to spurn him, and pledged both to stand up to Beijing and seek talks.

They're finally admitting it.

Marijuana has medical properties and is useful to treat certain ailments.

We said it back in the 90s as teenager's that we'd see this one day.

Why it took them so long is beyond me (cough big pharma).

The U.S. government has released hundreds of pages of documents related to its ongoing review of marijuana’s status under federal law, officially confirming for the first time that health officials have recommended the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) place cannabis in Schedule III of the Controlled Substances Act (CSA).
The 252 pages of documents from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) explain that cannabis “has a currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States” and has a “potential for abuse less than the drugs or other substances in Schedules I and II.”

Federal health officials said their review found that more than 30,000 healthcare professionals “across 43 U.S. jurisdictions are authorized to recommend the medical use of marijuana for more than six million registered patients for at least 15 medical conditions.”

There exists widespread, current experience with medical use of the substance by [health care practitioners] operating in accordance with implemented jurisdiction-authorized programs, where medical use is recognized by entities that regulate the practice of medicine,” HHS said.
Attorney Matt Zorn, to whom the documents were released, sued the government following a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to obtain the rescheduling memo.

And it shook things up, of course.

Deep-fried and highly processed foods have been implicated in other studies of early onset colorectal cancer, while diets with fiber, fruits and vegetables likely lower risks. Cancers including colorectal, breast and pancreatic have been tied to obesity, and studies support a link between excess weight and some early onset cancers.

But doctors said obesity and lifestyle can’t fully account for the plight of the people arriving at their clinics.

Some doctors suspect that cancer-causing exposures might have started during patients’ childhoods, something that is difficult to trace. Unlike when smoking drove up lung cancer deaths in the 20th century, doctors suspect there isn’t a single carcinogen responsible for the current trends. Results Global incidence of early-onset cancer increased by 79.1% and the number of early-onset cancer deaths increased by 27.7% between 1990 and 2019. Early-onset breast, tracheal, bronchus and lung, stomach and colorectal cancers showed the highest mortality and DALYs in 2019. Globally, the incidence rates of early-onset nasopharyngeal and prostate cancer showed the fastest increasing trend, whereas early-onset liver cancer showed the sharpest decrease. Early-onset colorectal cancers had high DALYs within the top five ranking for both men and women. High-middle and middle Sociodemographic Index (SDI) regions had the highest burden of early-onset cancer. The morbidity of early-onset cancer increased with the SDI, and the mortality rate decreased considerably when SDI increased from 0.7 to 1. The projections indicated that the global number of incidence and deaths of early-onset cancer would increase by 31% and 21% in 2030, respectively. Dietary risk factors (diet high in red meat, low in fruits, high in sodium and low in milk, etc), alcohol consumption and tobacco use are the main risk factors underlying early-onset cancers.

Conclusion Early-onset cancer morbidity continues to increase worldwide with notable variances in mortality and DALYs between areas, countries, sex and cancer types. Encouraging a healthy lifestyle could reduce early-onset cancer disease burden.

Globally, cancer is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality, resulting in a large disease burden.1 According to Global Cancer Statistics 2020, breast cancer with the largest number of 2.3 million new cases accounted for 11.7% of all cancers, followed by lung cancer (11.4%), colorectal cancer (CRC) (10.0 %), while lung cancer was the main cause of cancer death (1.8 million deaths, 18%), followed by CRC (9.4%), liver (8.3%) cancer.1 Cancer is generally more prevalent in adults over 50 years, but the incidence of early-onset cancer (<50 years) has increased worldwide.2 In comparison to later-onset cancer, the increase of early-onset cancer has significant personal and societal ramifications. Moreover, early-onset cancer and the adverse impacts of some corresponding cancer treatments may result in additional health issues during subsequent life cycle,3 which would considerably increase the disease burden associated with early-onset cancers.
