This planet does not need us to survive. Look at the fig tree and all the life that it supports. So many other species that are so important in the circle of life on this planet. What do we humans bring to the table?

Didn't you see the title of God's cookbook? Just because humans like to ignore that they are on the menu doesn't change the fact that we are just worm food in the end.
Here is an idea. After the first moment of the Big Bang, the universe has been cooling off. Pure energy became matter as it cooled and the temperature of space became the current background level. If you project this trend eventually the universe will cool down to absolute zero and time will stop. Right now the universal temperature is still high enough for active energy to continue to radiate and move. Everything in the universe, esp. life (people too), is an attempt to resist the universal cooling effect and keep time in motion for as long as possible before the Big Freeze. In a nutshell, we are here to resist entropy.
