Well the proof is in the pudding when Trump asks other countries to send in their warships to the Strait of Hormuz and he gets back silence.

Why doesn't he send his own warships there?

Because we've got 3 carrier group there already? How many more do you suppose we'll need to put there? I think we max out at around 11, so there is a limit to what we can send.

It looks to me like the "silence", at least in the case of France and (finally) the UK, is because they are already busy steaming towards the area. Maybe too busy working the rigging to make any statements?

Most other countries with the exception of Russia and China, just don't have enough navy to send... and I really don't expect either Russia or China to enter the fight in any overt way.

Maybe a better question might be: why is the US declining escort duty for ships traversing the straights after initially suggesting it themselves? Now THAT is a question! I don't have the answer for it.

It's been shown in studies that most people  are just too busy getting on with their personal lives and problems to dig around in the muck of political opinion for themselves, and so those folks do tend to accept opinions "issued" to them - usually opinions in alignment with their own predispositions whether "Left " or "Right" - from other people. That's just the way it is, for better or worse. They tend to think whatever the TV or internet tells them to think simply because they've not got the time, or inclination, or in some cases intellectual horsepower, to personally dig into it themselves.

That's an interesting report, and if true underscores the necessity of arming the Iranian public sooner rather than later. Unless they are armed enough to enforce their own will, we could potentially exit with an Iran owned and operated by either the MEK or ISIS, both of which are already armed, instead of one owned and operated by the People of Iran.

And that outcome is not much, if any, better than what we already have now.

As much as I hate to say it, MEK might be a slight improvement. At least they are stuck in the 19th and early 20th centuries, as opposed to the 7th century of the mullahs. ISIS would not be an improvement at all, however, since they are as stuck in the 7th century as the mullahs are. In the case of ISIS, it's just trading one flavor of fundamentalist religionist for another flavor of the same, so no net progress. It would be sort of like abdicating the US to the Christian Nationalists.

It's not the question of just escorting ships, it's the question of also compensating any damage ships and cargo if struck because insurance companies are not insuring ships at this point.

I am anti-war, I am against governments that think they are untouchable and above the law and can just bomb any neighbor they think is weak. Israel and US bombed first, they are the aggressors in this instance. I am also against Russia's invasion but what is ironic is that Russia invaded Ukraine with the same insane reasoning as Israel and the US invaded Iran, because of an insecurity and not because they were actually attacked.
