Looks like the war with Iran is cooking off

Israel staying true to form with an attack on a girls primary school in Iran.

 We're hearing more now from the Iranian health ministry on the number of students killed at Minab Girls' Primary School.

Hossein Kermanpour, health ministry spokesperson, says on X that 60 children had been killed after Israeli strikes hit this morning.

He added that another 80 were injured, and there were an unknown number of children under the rubble.

Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi adds on X that "these crimes against the Iranian people will not go unanswered".

I'm not yet ready to accept accusations from the Iranian regime. It's not like they've been terribly truthful for the last 47 years, so why would they suddenly start now?

Plus, the claim smacks of "an appeal to emotion", along the lines of the old tried and true "it's for the children!"

Furthermore, does Iran not keep track of it's students? If they know how many were allegedly in the school, and they know how many are accounted for, how could they possibly have "an unknown number still trapped beneath the rubble"?

It's just not ringing right for me. I'll need additional confirmation from the ground of Iran. Maybe some of the protesters that have not yet been slaughtered by the regime can chime in on it.

Wars can be fight with air strikes , but winning wars usually needs ground forces .

I dont see anyone even mention sending boots on the ground ,in any larger way.


Gun control is very restricted in Iran ,for obvious reasons. So the iran military has the guns and civilians dont.....IRGC can easely shoot 100k if needed to secure mullahs position . So if there will be only these precise strikes , but not help Iranian civilians get armed , we are in unpredictable zone .

If they're smart, they won't send in any foreign ground forces. Ground forces - "boots on the ground" - are only necessary when one intends to take and then hold ground. The US isn't interested in holding ground there, they are interested in decapitating the regime so that the Iranians can retake and then hold THEIR OWN country.

In other words, the Iranian People are "the boots n the ground" - it is THEIR country to retake and hold, not ours.

So what they probably need most is air-drops of crates of weapons to facilitate their battle against the IRGC. They don't need boots on the ground, they need air-dropped crates of weapons on the ground. The air strikes serve to thin out the IRGC herd, and throw it into disarray to make it ripe for the picking by the Iranian People.

What worries me the most is that the only attacks from "the people" that I've heard about so far are MEK attacks. MEK is a Marxist organization, and what we really don't need more of on Earth is Marxist countries.

BUT... that is for the Iranian People to decide. it's their country, not ours, so they can run it as they see fit. I just hope they look at history and choose widely. I'd hate to have to do this all over again in another 40 years.

Without those weapons supplied to the Iranians, they are then as much at the mercy of te Marxist MEK as they are at the mercy of the fanatical Islamist regime... and tht is not an enviable place to be, either way.

This answer is just from my own perspective - other folks' mileage may vary.

First, to get the emotional response out of the way, for the last 47 years we have not had a US president with the testicular fortitude to get done what needed to be done. That includes Reagan, who to be fair had other irons in the fire in the 80's, and it sure as hell include Bush and Company, which may have been the single most incompetent "wartime" administration the US has ever seen. There was no sense at all in invading Iraq and taking our eye off the ball where it mattered - in Afghanistan.

I said at that time, and still maintain to today, that Bush almost single-handedly lost the Afghanistan war for us by letting it languish so he could concentrate on a  completely unnecessary war in Iraq, and that he only went into Iraq because he was butt-hurt that his daddy got his own ass handed to him there by Hussein. And yeah, I think King George Bush I got his ass handed to him in the Gulf War - he was within 8 hours of a victory when he suddenly got cold feet, tucked in his tail, and ran away. Not a win by any measure I can see. More like a completely useless waste of resources and lives, on the part of both King George Bushes, I and II.

Now that I've got that out of my system for the time being, back to the current situation in Iran.

Iran is a danger to world stability, not just "US concerns" or Israel, but world stability. It is/was actively seeking to destabilize the entire Middle East - well, really just the Sunni portions of it I guess - so that it could export it's virulent brand if Shi'ism and eradicate the Sunnis, replacing them with Shi'ites.

Now, the Sunni - Shi'ite bickering has been going on forever, ever since there have been Sunnis and Sh'ites, and would normally not be of any concern to me. It's gone on forever, and will probably continue in one form or another until hell freezes over, or until one or the other of those two schisms are gone. The problem is the way the Iranian regime has gone about it - by exporting "proxy" terrorists abroad. it's not just Hamas vs. Israel, or Hizbollah vs. both Israel and Lebanon, it's the complete world wide picture. Houthis vs. Saudi Arabia, for example. "Sleeper cells" vs. anyone who is not Islamic at all. It's Iranian interference in Iraqi affairs, and Iranian interference in Afghan affairs. It's Iran trying to foment instability wherever they can get a foothold for their proxy terrorists and intelligence services. That bodes ill for not just the Middle East, but for everyone else in the world as well.

Last night I commented that it was curious that Iran had been hitting Arab countries, and I had not yet heard at that point of an attack on Israel. I was told - by a former Moslem, and a former Shi'ite at that - that the reason for that was Iran was trying to "punish" those countries for their participation in the Abraham Accords. No mention by them of the US bases, just the Abraham Accords and "punishment" for the Sunnis over their participation.

Their entire game appears to be destabilization so they can spread Shi'ism (and of course Iranian leadership thereof) to the entire world. It's not that I'm particularly enamored of Sunnis, either, but peace would be nice, and they were working towards it - that was their crime in the eyes of the Ayatollahs and Mullahs. That was why they had to be destabilized and eventually overthrown by Shi'ites.

Based upon that philosophy alone, the world cannot afford to allow nuclear weapons to a militant Shi'ite Iran.

Then there are "humanitarian" reasons, which I suppose could be classed as "emotional". The Iranian people have lived for 47 years under the mismanagement of the Mullah Regime, and they've just about had enough of that. That's the reason for all the protests over these past several years, each of which has been violently suppressed by the regime.

Now the mismanagement has reached epic proportions. Water is running out due to mismanagement. Their economy is crashing, also due to mismanagement. When people can no longer eat or drink, they get testy, and seek a change. the regime is utterly unwilling to give them that change, so something has to give, and it would not give without outside assistance to the people there.

Cue decapitation air strikes form outside to give the Iranian People a fighting chance. Don't ask me if they appreciate it - ask an Iranian. Find out what THEY think of it.

That's just my measly 2 cents worth.

For precisely that reason."We" (as in "America") are the only ones to have ever used a nuke in anger, and therefore we are also the only ones to truly understand the horrors, the ramifications, and the guilt of having done so. We are, therefore, far less likely to use nukes than say, for instance, a rabidly radical religious zealotry.

Because we've been  there. we've done that. And we've lived with the guilty aftermath. Only we know the depth of the ramifications. Only we have that deterrent to frivolous use.

We are the only nation on Earth to know first-hand the opprobrium of the world on that score, and even at times of our own citizenry. We are the only nation that has had to live with the results of our nuclear actions.

That, and also the likelihood that religious zealots probably wouldn't feel any shame at all by "Nuking for God". They seem to have a proclivity to laying waste to everyone if they think their god tells them to. That's not just Moslems - I have serious doubts that Christian zealots in general have outgrown that philosophy, either.

Now Israel and Trump are both reporting the death of Khameinei, but I'm still holding out for independent confirmation, since both of those sources have been known to... get thing "wrong", to be charitable... and I'd like some independent confirmation on that particular point.

Not that either of those sources are likely to release information that big without being certain - imagine the egg that would be on their faces! - but still I'd like something independently verified. I'm a belt-and-suspenders kinda guy.

Maybe Bush shoulda listened to Cheney and the PNAC and gone after Iran instead. 

I’m avoiding the religious zealots part. I was a Goldwater supporter. He warned us way back then of Christian Nationalism (they don’t get a pass either).
