News just breaking , Andy Burnham has been blocked from standing in the by-election by Labours NEC Committee , the vote was 8-1 against with Labour Deputy PM the only MP to back him.
Quote:The Labour Party's ruling national executive committee (NEC) has blocked Andy Burnham from running in the Gorton and Denton by-election. Democracy ? This will anger Labour voters and make them less likely to vote for the chosen Labour candidate , it's good news for Reform UK however who are now favourites to win the seat. •

Nope, that's not how democracy works. In a democracy, the people are supposed to have a voice. Limiting their choices by edict from on high silences that voice.
I had much the same sort of problem with Republicans in Virginia during the last primary. In order to vote in the Republican primary for candidates, the GOP decided that folks had to sign a paper saying they would vote for whomever the GOP told them to vote for. I wasn't having that, so I passed on voting in the primaries at all. If they were going to select the candidates instead of elect them, they didn't need little old me to make the trip to the polls to validate their fantasies. That's not how a democracy works, either.

We now know that along with Deputy leader Lucy Powell's vote backing Burnham Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood abstained from the vote probably because she also knows it's wrong but couldn't vote against the boss but Starmer and the Unions voted to stop Burnham standing , watch out for generous public sector pay rises in the budget at the end of March.
Quote:Sky News understands the 10-person panel voted eight to one to block Mr Burnham's bid, with only Deputy Leader Lucy Powell backing him. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood, chair of the NEC - Labour's governing body - abstained. These are the actions of a tin pot banana republic dictator but in doing what he's done he has alienated a section of the party and Labour voters and in doing so damaged himself and aided Reform , stupid is as stupid does. May 7th , Starmer's day of reckoning approaches. Bye Bye Chuckles.

Are reports correct that the return of the Chagos Islands may not happen now ?
Diego Garcia. Funny how small places like that can assume huge strategic importance.

Yes , Starmer has reportedly pulled the Bill that was due to be debated in the House of Lords after Donald Trump told him it was not in the interest of the US to cede the territory a after Nigel Farage had a word with the Trump camp at Davos explaining how bad an idea it was , Trump called it Stupid .... I agree. In other news ... Labour have today announced their candidate for the Gorton by-election due next month , Angeliki Stogia came to England as a student from Greece to study European Studies and Languages in 1995 , she later became a Councillor for Manchester City Council in 2012 a position she still holds today , I guess she will resign her position in the Council if she wins the by-election so likely still a Councillor for Manchester City Council on February 27th and no risk for Labour.
Seems to me like a candidate that personifies Labour. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/clyn5zj8750o •
Be careful of allowing foreigners into government. A native of Bangladesh who had managed to worm himself into a political slot here has been absolutely instrumental in the rape of Virginia, the US Constitution, and the Virginia Constitution. He's apparently been a busy guy....
After 9/11, who would have thunk that Moslems would take America down from without or within, by any means possible? Perish the thought! .

We have a convicted terrorist standing as a candidate for a Birmingham council seat in the May local elections.
Quote:In case you missed it: a convicted terrorist is running for election in Birmingham. Truly beggars belief. Our Labour Bangladeshi anti-corruption minister had to resign when she was charged with corruption by Bangladeshi authorities , she was later found guilty , Diversity is our strength.

Today Labour MP and former Anti-Corruption minister Tulip Siddiq was sentenced to 4 years in prison by a Bangladeshi court in her absence.
Quote:Bangladesh has sentenced former prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, and her niece, Labour MP Tulip Siddiq, to jail in a corruption probe. So of course former Barrister , Director of Public Prosecutions and now PM Kier Starmer will remove the Labour Whip from the convicted Ms Siddiq , won't he ? ..... Quote:Responding to the verdict, a Labour spokesperson said the party "cannot recognise this judgment". Ahhh , of course, funny they won't recognise a judgement from a foreign court , seems a bit Racist to me. Their time of reckoning approaches and I have a fully stocked popcorn bucket , bring it on. • |
