Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) is much more interested in winning the social media wars than bringing peace and prosperity to his failed state.


On Monday afternoon, President Trump was asked his thoughts about White House Executive Associate Director of Enforcement and Removal Operations, aka “border czar,” Tom Homan saying he would arrest Newsom and failed Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass if they broke federal law… even though Homan never said he would arrest Bass or Newsom. All he said is that if they cross a specific legal line, they are not above the law.

Here’s what Homan actually said.

“You cross that line,” he told MSNBC over the weekend, “it’s a felony to knowingly harbor and conceal an illegal alien. It’s a felony to impede law enforcement from doing their job.”

So Homan’s comments are nothing like the fake media are portraying them.

A visible emblem of ire has emerged from the protests in Los Angeles: graffitied, burning Waymos.

Vandalism and torched cars are a hallmark of many riots, and Los Angeles is no exception. In 2020, protesters defaced and burned police cars as protests over the death of George Floyd in police custody turned violent. Now electric, driverless vehicles have been summoned to protest scenes via the Waymo app. The resulting EV fires burn hotter than traditional car fires and are potentially more hazardous.

The autonomous robot taxis owned by Google parent company Alphabet were tagged with protest slogans and profanity—and set on fire—as a way to disrupt traffic over the weekend and demonstrate against the widespread roundup of migrants by Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers. Waymo said Monday that it has restricted travel for the autonomous vehicles so they won’t be able to travel to downtown Los Angeles, but the fleet continues to serve other parts of the city.

Waymo EVs can be called up on a mobile-phone app to areas a human driver might not be willing to go. The cars can be spray-painted, set on fire or pummeled until glass breaks without the possibility of hurting a human driver. But EVs that are set on fire burn hotter and longer than traditional cars because they run on lithium-ion batteries.

Firefighters who are called to put out flaming electric vehicles find that the surest approach is to stand back and “let it burn,” Fire Marshal Andy King of Franklin, Tenn., told The Wall Street Journal in 2023.

The Waymo vehicles on the road in Los Angeles are Jaguar I-PACE EVs, with a starting price tag of around $73,000. They are equipped with an array of cameras, radar and lidar—a detection system akin to radar that uses a laser—as well as a sophisticated computer system. The total price tag was estimated in 2024 to be between $150,000 and $200,000.

Waymo wouldn’t comment on how much its vehicles cost or quantify how much damage has been done to its fleet of 300 EVs in Los Angeles.

The LA Chaos Is an Illusion and Trump Will Not Fall for It


If you are a Californian, the current LA riots are an example of your tax dollars hard at work. The Coalition for Humane Immigrant Right—CHIRLA is one of the key players in fomenting the violent response to immigration enforcement actions. It’s an LA-based nonprofit with a history of taking radical positions on immigration; for example, it led a 2018 campaign to abolish ICE. It currently leads the Los Angeles Rapid Response Network, which gathers intel about enforcement actions and deploys activists to respond.

CHIRLA has strong ties to the Demoncrat Party in California and has supported the election of Democratic candidates through its lobbying arm. It has a particularly close relationship with Los Angeles Marxist Mayor Karen Bass. The organization also has a close relationship with organized labor in the state, which in turn is a major financial supporter of Democrat politicians. On Friday, amid rising tensions, CHIRLA held a rally protesting ICE’s enforcement actions and the arrest of SEIU President David Huerta for obstruction. The incredible part is that CHIRLA’s activities are primarily funded by California taxpayers.

In a nutshell: Your tax dollars fund an organization that organizes efforts to directly interfere with the federal government’s lawful exercise of authority. Then, through its lobbying arm, that organization helps get Democrats elected to office, who then repay the favor by ensuring increased funding. This is the nonprofit industrial complex at work.

I guess my question is, how does Trump get away (legally) with deploying 'active duty' troops (Marines in this case) on American soil?  Last time I checked, I thought the 2/7 Marines was an active duty line infantry unit.

Now, I understand their current charter is just protecting federal buildings which is "if-y" in terms of not violating the Posse Comitatus Act, but wider involvement, especially engagement with the enemy may cause some problems for Trump.

Note - Where I see this becoming the biggest problem for Trump is within the notion that these protesters are violently anti-Trump, and this is one of the core reasons why the Posse Comitatus Act was enacted, so Trump is on thin ice here with this action. I'm sure the liberal media will pick up on this exact theme and start reporting progressively more heavily on it going forward. For my part, I support the action in principle, and I think I understand Trump's reasoning (i.e. that active duty troops aren't under the command of the State Governor, unlike the National Guard).

It's my understanding that the Guard troops in LA have been federalized under Title 10, and are under federal command rather than state command. Technically, that should preclude their use on American soil too, same as "active duty" troops, but there they are.

Possee Comitatus is a joke, and is regularly ignored by whomever the top dawg of the day is. It was enacted in response to the Federal occupation of the South during Reconstruction after the Civil War, but no one pays any attention to it unless they have a gripe against whomever sent the troops in. Remember the military destruction of "Hoovervilles" during the depression.  Troops were regularly sent in to quell riots in the 1960's, too, and LA has seen it's share of deployments from the 60's onward - this is just the latest one.

I would argue that the militarization of the police forces under DHS "Fusion Centers" rule is also a violation of Possee Comitatus, but no one cares about that, either. There is no logical reason my local PD should have MRAPs, but there they are. DHS gave a town in the next county over about 700 M16A1's, which are stockpiled there. The town police force only has about 12 cops in total, and I've always wondered just who all those M16's are really for.

Meanwhile, on the ground, if I'm getting beat down and set on fire, I don't really care what kind of patches the guys who haul me out of that are wearing. The argument is really an academic one for academics and lawyers to tussle over.

I reckon the bottom line is that cops ought to do cop things and soldiers ought to do soldier things, but for years now those lines have been getting blurred, and when the cops get overwhelmed, who ya gonna send?

Ninurta - No argument really with any of that.  I was merely pointing out the blowback angle of the troop deployment under Trump.  In those other examples you mentioned there wasn't the same groundswell of social media sympathy for the bad guys like there is in LA at the moment.  I could also see this escalating to other states as well.

There are two central theme to the current violence in LA.  And, as usual, the leftwing protestors don't have a unified message.  One theme is ICE and their deportations, and the other is the anti-Israel movement.  You've got both involved in the protests in LA.  That said, I think the protests and violence are getting a lot of support from the illegal community.

I think this just goes to show just how many of these illegals have gotten into this nation, and just how much damage they have caused and continue to cause (and will for the foreseeable future).
