After "postponing" 4 Mayoral elections which Reform would likely have won Labour are now asking councils who "postponed" their elections earlier this year (including mine) if they would like to "postpone" them again next May due to the reorganisation that caused this years "postponement" because they are terrified of Reform , both Tory and Labour councillors wil no doubt jump at the chance to extend their term at the trough another year Democracy be damned.

British government watchdog the Electoral Commission has signalled its displeasure at Starmer's anti-democratic decision to offer councils the opportunity not to hold elections next year in their attempt to stop Reform.

The chief executive of the Electoral Commission, Vijay Rangarajan, hit out at the announcement on Friday, saying he was "concerned" that some elections could be postponed, with some having already been deferred from 2025.

"We are disappointed by both the timing and substance of the statement. Scheduled elections should, as a rule, go ahead as planned, and only be postponed in exceptional circumstances," he said in a statement.

"Decisions on any postponements will not be taken until mid-January, less than three months before the scheduled May 2026 elections are due to begin.

"This uncertainty is unprecedented and will not help campaigners and administrators who need time to prepare for their important roles."

Mr Rangarajan added: "We very much recognise the pressures on local government, but these late changes do not help administrators. Parties and candidates have already been preparing for some time, and will be understandably concerned."

He said "capacity constraints" were not a "legitimate reason for delaying long planned elections", which risked "affecting the legitimacy of local decision-making and damaging public confidence".

The watchdog chief also said there was "a clear conflict of interest in asking existing councils to decide how long it will be before they are answerable to voters".

Not sure what teeth the commission has in circumstances like this but the words of Mr Rangarajan are food for thought for the government over their Christmas break , fear of election results are no reason to deny people their right to vote.

It seems a pretty clear conflict of interest to allow ANY governing body to "postpone" elections in which it is their own jobs on the line. In a nation nominal run supposedly by the governed, it should be clear that any such decision, if the governors determined it might be a necessity, to get the final decision directly from the people who are supposed to be running the country - the citizenry. Therefore, the only legitimate way to do it would be to put that measure, by itself, up for a vote... a referendum of the People being herded into the chutes.

On the other hand,something like this might be expected in a country where citizens can be jailed for simply speaking their mind out loud, or jailed for being photographed simply holding a rifle in another country, etc. When a people start willingly allowing their overlords to incrementally curtail their basic freedoms, there is but one end it will ever come to if left to run unchecked, and the eventuality of them losing their voices entirely, even at the ballot box, is but the next step along that progression to totalitarianism.

I'd say the slide started probably with something simple like a tax for merely owning a television, regardless of whether said television was ever even actually turned on or not....

... but all such slides have to start somewhere, and it's usually somewhere small. It snowballs as it rolls down hill until it eventually steamrolls everything and everyone in it's path.

It's high time this slide was stopped. If a referendum on the issue were to be denied, the next step on the part of the People should involve pitchforks and torches. Firearms, knives, and bludgeons of course would be out of the question - those ships have already sailed.

This is the worst government I can remember in my 60 years of living here mate , all politicians lie usually through statistics but this bunch of fascists lie blatantly without a care , Starmer even lied to Trump about free speech and the population by saying we wouldn't be returning to the EU while returning us to the EU , pledging not to raise our taxes while raising our taxes to pay for the foreign invaders was also sick kick in the nuts for working Brits.

I fear Starmer and the EU want to take us to war with Russia in an attempt to save their positions , it worked for Thatcher in the Falklands war when she was facing defeat but was re-elected when we beat Argentina to retain the islands , at best it would give him an excuse to "postpone" the next General Election due to war and at worst , well I think we all see the dangers there.

I and millions of other right thinking Brits are at the end of our tether , civil disobedience and direct action are in the offering next year made more likely by this latest attack on our Democratic rights , this will be a fight for our very survival and that of our once Great Country .... we will prevail.

I know times are changing when even my straight laced non-political sister is considering voting Reform UK.

Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey has written to the British Equalities and Human Rights Commission over Starmer's cowardly plan to deny millions of people , including myself , their right to vote in next May's local Elections, fear of losing is no excuse to deny people their right to vote.

In his letter, Sir Ed said: "Article 3 of the first protocol of the Human Rights Act spells out in black and white the right to free elections.

"Removing elections altogether, entirely unnecessarily, is in clear breach of this principle. Can you therefore confirm your plans to investigate the government's cavalier approach to our elections?"

As a former Human rights lawyer and investigation into him by the HRC will probably give Starmer sleepless nights even though he is a Despotic charmless Bastard.

If the HRC decide not to investigate Labour's Anti-Democratic plan it will prove what we already suspect , we don't have any rights to vote in our own Country anymore.
