I'm American, I voted for Trump, and I'm fairly highly educated. Note that means only "educated", not necessarily "intelligent", but I did manage to survive a community college and 4 different universities in a quest for "education"... which again does not always equate with "intelligence".

The alternative was dismal - Cacklin' Kamala Harris. Probably the ONLY candidate in the field who was less educated, and less intelligent than even myself, and for some unfathomable reason the Democrats decided she was "It". Regardless of either education or intelligence, my conscience would not allow me to cast a vote for such a buffoon.

Much to my shame, I did not vote at all in the most recent Virginia elections, because I could not get out of the house and down to the voting place... and look where the hell that got Virginia! We're in a hell of a mess now, and there ain't no cavalry coming over the hill to save us.

Educated and intelligent are not the same. A 10 year old can memorize a book, that doesn't mean he understands it. Most college is about memorizing what the Liberal teachers think is important. Doesn't mean they know how to think. They just know how to parrot what they've been told.

My Dear Old Dad was one of the smartest people I ever met. His IQ was measured at 198. For all that, he quit school in the 7th grade, and never went back. He was extremely "intelligent", but supremely "uneducated". His real education was on the streets and on the job.

As for the point that US colleges are "parrot mills", I can't agree more, having attended several of them. It actually starts in high school, and has for a very long time. I'm in my 60's, and it was that way even way back when, when I was in high school. I had ONE teacher that taught us to think rather than parrot "facts", and I thank God for her. The rest only shoved dry "facts" in our faces, expected us to memorize them, and then regurgitate them back on tests.

I have by now forgotten or "unlearned" 95% of what I "learned" in high school, because when I got out into the real world I found that their "facts" were no such thing, or else utterly inapplicable to life in the Real World.

That single teacher who taught us to evaluate and think for ourselves affected my survival in the Real World more than she will ever know now.

That is a convenient fairy tale told in our schools over here. It's not true.

America was built by AMERICANS. While it's true that some of them were immigrants - and I stress IMMIGRANTS, not Illegal Aliens - They were all, first and foremost, Americans whether natively born here or going through immigration to become Americans.

Actual immigrant - those actually immigrating and working their way to becoming citizens by the legal route, through Immigration Services - do benefit the economy. Illegal Aliens and various other enclaves who have no intention of assimilating, not so much. The illegals in particular are actually a drain on the economy, because they send most of their pay back home, so it leaves America to benefit foreigners.

That is not a benefit to the US economy. At all.

How other countries handle their "immigrants" or "refugees" or "Asylum seekers" or "illegal aliens" is up to them. it's their country to handle, not mine... which is why I don't generally try to sneak into them any more. If I come, I'll come through the front door, thank you very much, rather than trying to enter through a broken window.

As far as ICE's "Style" goes, I can't blame them. As a private citizen, not even an ICE officer, if anyone tries to run me over then they are bought and paid for. I'll end 'em right then and there if I can before they can end me. Same goes for any dumbasses that bring a gun to an arrest party. Sure, you have a Second Amendment right to carry a gun here, but with all rights also come responsibility, and taking a gun to an event that is supposed to involve only arrests does kinda beg to get shot - folks have to assume that you've brought that gun to shoot THEM, otherwise why would you have it?

So, really, if one does not want to get shot, perhaps a better course of action would be to stay at home and watch a movie. Even watching a violent move won't usually actually get the watcher shot... but intentionally going into harm'
s way carrying a gun... yeah, that often gets folks shot.

Bottom line in the Pretti case - when you go armed into situations that are none of your goddamned business, and which are likely to turn violent, and especially when YOU are fomenting said violence, YOU have made the decision and taken the responsibility for holding your own life in the balance.

I'm a STRONG supporter of the Second Amendment, and of the right to be armed, and I am also a strong supporter of planning ahead and taking responsibility for your own decisions, armed or not. Just ask a soldier - when you go armed against other armed folks, someone is likely to get poked full of holes and all leaky. it's a foreseeable inevitability.

We can never reach a consensus, or agreement (God forbid!), or even understanding of one another when we are all just shouting at each other just to move the goddamned air around!

Furthermore, just shouting one's opponent down only drives them underground, where one can never again see what they are thinking, or about to get up to. In government circles, they call that "an intelligence failure", and I'd suggest that by "intelligence", they may mean more than one thing, more than one sense of the word "intelligence"...

It IS possible, but one has to put the effort into it instead of just starting a partisan shouting match. I've done it. Numerous, numerous times, both online AND in person.

The key is to not belittle them, and not allow them to belittle you. Once that is allowed to start, both sides lose a valuable resource, no matter how smugly they feel about it.

It's a skill that, sadly, what passes for modern "education" seems to have left by the wayside.
