'Real, hard evidence is needed before last week’s “implausible” US Congressional testimony on
UFOs by ex-intelligence officer David Grusch can be held as anything but science fiction.

That is the appraisal of physicist Professor Jonathan Blazek of Northeastern University, who said
he “[didn’t] find Grusch very credible” after reading a summary report on hearing. Mr Grusch -a former
intelligence officer and US Air Force veteran -had told the House Oversight Subcommittee that the
US is retrieving and reverse-engineering alien spaceships.

He added that “non-human biologics” have also been recovered from crash sites, and that he “knows
the exact location” of a site where the government is poring over alien artefacts. However, Mr Grusch
repeatedly backed away from offering specifics or evidence in support of his claims, saying that he
couldn’t “discuss that publicly” -a tendency that Prof. Blazek said was “very frustrating”.

Alongside being vague, Prof. Blazek noted Grusch has been making “increasingly implausible claims”
-including the suggestion that the allegedly retrieved alien spacecraft have come from other physical
dimensions.

The physicist told Northeastern Global News: “I think what I find most surprising is that lawmakers
seem to be taking him so seriously at this point. I’m sure they know things that I don’t.” He suggested
that it may be that members of Congress “don’t want to be seen as suppressing anything, so it’s better
to be transparent about the sorts of claims being made.

“Hopefully this is part of a process to get everything out into the open so that the community can proceed
to looking into the more credible and/or actually mysterious things,” he said. However, Prof. Blazek added:
“I don’t think this particular hearing will make the public take the claims of ‘aliens’ more seriously.”

Prof. Blazek said he is looking forward to reading the soon-to-be-published report from an independent panel
of scientists selected by NASA, who will be looking into so-called “Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena” (UAP).

The panel includes retired astronaut Scott Kelly, NASA advisor David Grinspoon of the Planetary Science
Institute in Tucson, Arizona and astrophysicist Professor Federica Bianco of the University of Delaware.

Announcing the launch of the panel last October, Thomas Zurbuchen, NASA science mission directorate
associate administrator, said: “Exploring the unknown in space and the atmosphere is at the heart of who
we are at NASA. “Understanding the data we have surrounding unidentified anomalous phenomena is
critical to helping us draw scientific conclusions about what is happening in our skies.
Data is the language of scientists and makes the unexplainable, explainable.”

Prof. Blazek added: “There’s probably been a realisation in the last decades that the culture around this has
gotten sort of toxic, on both sides. “Actual explanations for some of these events would be really interesting.”
To date, the Pentagon has not acknowledged the existence of UFOs of proven extraterrestrial origins.

In fact, back in April, Professor Sean Kirkpatrick — a materials physicist and director of the US Department
of Defense’s All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) — testified to a Senate Committee that AARO
“had found no credible evidence thus far of extraterrestrial activity, off-world technology, or objects that defy
the known laws of physics”...'

Of course, you're correct. A revelation like the one being offered would have a profound effect on
global perception for every human on this planet. Policing the financial world, the established religions,

The video was made 7 years ago...so much for the 48 month prediction. I grew up around Baptist and First Born preachers who swore the second coming was just around the corner and everyone needed to live in fear/love of god's glory or face eternal damnation.. All those preachers are dead now and wasted their lives in fear of something they had no control of.  

The religious factions preach and proclaim tolerance while in truth anyone who does not fall within their sects hierarchy are condemned to a fate worse than death that last forever. The first Born proclaimed everyone else was going to hell unless you were of the church of the First Born. Probably got that view from the Catholics of long ago ?

Thousands of years of stifled growth and advancement due to some written words supposedly by a god who promises paradise after you are dead yet written by men who seek power "today" or live in a fantasy world of their own creation ..

A god who would condemn all non christens to a hell for all eternity is not my kind of mythical Sky Fairy being I feel like bending a knee to; but I realize I can be very hard headed at times..

I think I was about 23 years of age living and flying in S.E. Asia when I decided I would read the New Testament from cover to cover.  No preacher, no intermediator or interpreter just me and the good book. I was surrounded by Buddhist and their ways of thinking so I was having questions on the meaning of life and religion. Buddhist do not believe in a God just in case you did not know...  just the natural order of the universe when it come to death and rebirth. They are probably FOS too but they are some of the finest people I have ever met in some ways. All religions are some form of a racket once men get their hands on the power and wealth it can bring IMO.

I always thought Paul and his mad ravings plus some of the horrific things done to Christens by the Romans while they smiled and did not cry out was what helped the religion as much as anything.

Whatever greases the wheels of society and brings peace and happiness IMO is a good thing... Yet consider that when the beheading starts or the burning at the stake begins it is man's society doing these deeds not some Sky Fairy.

I liked the old bible god for if someone pissed him off the retribution was soon to come and in some cases almost none were spared; or so the stories by man has said.

One thing about this stuff is we will all have the answers once we are dead or we will be dead and know nothing.... either way is fine with me as I think of the billions who have gone before all of us . We may get on the other side and say, "Wow I could have had a V-8 instead of worrying !"

Not meaning to blow my own trumpet, but that was one facet of my recent 'Peggy Powler' stories had attached
to it! Control in or over a society always seems to require that threat of punishment if one strays from a credo
or even questions the doctrine.

Actually, the example you offer can be aligned to this thread's discussion. Isn't the whole situation of these celestial
crafts and their occupants being parcelled in such a way that the masses will need to heed those who are currently
attempting to take over the narrative.

Even now, the public are limited to what they can know, private meetings with only selected officials, a website that
held an interview with Grusch not available in Europe and a change in descriptive language regarding the phenomena.


Don't get me wrong, I want this to be true, it's just the manipulative handling of the subject that makes me cautious.

That's the take of more and more non-christians these days, and it's usually because of the reasons you've cited - this and that faction of the allegedly same religion preaching one another into hell because they belong to different factions or sects. It's not a good look, and doesn't leave a good impression. It turns people away.



Lots of allegedly christian factions preach all others but themselves into hell - the First Born, Seventh Day Adventists, Catholics (still to this day - I had a Catholic tell me that if I didn't get right with God I was hell-bound, and 'getting right with God' meant I had to be a Catholic... she didn't mince words! I told her I'd see her in hell, then) and the list goes on and on.




I have to wonder if ANY of them have ever even cracked a Bible open.




Now, in my various trips through the Good Book, I have only ever found ONE requirement. Not a bunch of them, and certainly not an adherence to any particular sect of Christianity as a requirement for escaping hell. That ONE requirement is that one believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Savior. Nowhere does it say that one has to even believe Jesus is God (which I don't), it only says one has to believe he is the Savior. That's it. No other requirements. In the Bible, even baptism is not a requirement - it was some janky men that made that into a requirement. In the Bible, all it says is that it's the answer of a clear conscience to God... but doesn't say that it a requirement to pass the Pearly Gates.




God doesn't deal in fear, only men do. With God, one is either in, or out. There is no in-between, and no amount of fear will change one's status as either in or out. Fear is useless in regard to legitimate religion. No amount of it will change the ultimate disposition




It's only men who use fear to control people, not God. So any one who tries to "fear" you into church, or their way of thinking, is not speaking for God, they speak only for themselves, and I would avoid their church like the plague it is.




And, as you aptly point out, in the end we will know the Truth, or we will know nothing at all, and either way is fine. No need to fear it. What comes, comes. Neither fear nor confidence will change it in the least. There is no avoiding it - it one day comes for us all, so what is the point of fearing the inevitable? I see no point in it at all.



ETA: I think Buddhists are mighty fine folk, too. I'll never forget this one little Buddhist monk that used to bring me food nearly every day while I was standing guard duty. It might be a loaf ot sticky rice wrapped in a banana leaf with some mystery meat looking stuff running through the center of it (not sure what it was, and I never asked, but I thought Buddhists were vegetarian... I don't know if that extends to not serving any meat, though), or something he called "grass tea" that had little gelatin cubes in it,, or a branch of longans or lychee, or even once a coconut still in the husk that I really had to work at to get the benefit of. We had a lot of long conversations, the one I remember best was about "The Naga". I got the feeling that he didn't much believe in the Naga, but he never said so. All in all a fine little fella that I never had any sort of disagreement with.

Makes sense - that particular monk was a Thai. Whatever that mystery meat was, it was pretty bright pink. Not uncooked, just unnaturally pink. Maybe some kind of dye in it or something. I dunno. The tea he brought was awesome - it was more like a meal than a drink, having those gelatin cubes in it, or in some cases filled up with shredded coconut.

Most of the stuff he brought came from the monastery he lived in, but he did put me on to a Vietnamese market in town. I used to go there and get some kind of Vietnamese noodles, like ramen noodles, but unlike the American ramens in that they had little grease packs and packs of hot pepper for seasonings in addition to the usual bullion pack for the broth. I'd buy those things by the case.

I take my religion seriously, but it ain't normal, not by any stretch of the imagination. I'd probably be a Christian, if I wasn't. I won't call myself a christian because I've never met one that believes as I do, and nearly all of them I've met are to some degree bigoted in favor of their own little clique of Christianity.

Most Christians also see everything in black and white, no shades of gray. On or off, black or white, yin or yang, either for them or against them, either saints or sinners, only two polarities, nothing in between. Because of that, there is an increasing proclivity on their part to see these alleged "aliens" as "demons", since they can't conceive of them as being angels. They do not consider that they might be something else entirely, and not give a flip either way about God or Satan.

I don't think science allows for them to be actual aliens from other planets though, either. Space is just too big and vast, the distances needing to be covered to far, for casual visitors from other planets.

So, contrary to both Christianity and Science, I think personally that they are likely from other dimensions - right next door, or even right here, but dimensionally "phased" so that normally neither they nor their worlds can be seen in THIS universe. That is, if they even really exist at all. I mean, I've seen things I cannot explain, but just because I can't explain them does not mean they are not explainable - it just means I don't know what that explanation is.

Here's an objective commentary article of the recent Hearings from The Washington Post in regarding testimonies
from Ryan Graves, David Grusch and David Fravor. In itself, the piece offers a gentle slant of being vigilant towards
the statements made by the three gentlemen and counters their words with an official communication from the
Pentagon.

But what surprised me was a line near the bottom of the article:
"This column does not necessarily reflect the opinion of the editorial board or Bloomberg LP and its owners."

Odd...? We're talking about trusted military personnel relating to Congress that they are aware of a possible
threat to the world, noted political leaders of a country assumedly unaware that the military have been keeping
a world-changing secret from those they serve and with assistance from certain medias, maintain a perception
of ridicule -and- it is only now that the aliens have decided to be a danger!!

Yet, the editorial board/ Bloomberg LP and its owners feel it relevant to remain on the side-lines of something
one of their employees published because of doubts in the testimonies. The word that keeps coming to mind
is 'Theatre'.

Are UFOs a Threat to National Security?

'Last week’s congressional hearings on UAPs, more popularly known as UFOs, were unusual even by the standards of US
politics -in both content and style. Not only did members of the military and intelligence community claim, under oath, that
truly inexplicable events occur on a regular basis, but members of Congress from both parties treated them with respect.

In all, the proceedings restored my faith in one of my favorite maxims: Sincerity is the most underrated motive in politics.
The hearings themselves send the signal that it is OK to talk and even speculate about this topic -and may even help us
get closer to the truth.

That is not to say that I believed everything I heard. I do not think that the US government has the remains of alien
spacecraft, for example, including some alien bodies, as claimed by retired Air Force Major David Grusch. But the
rest of the evidence was presented in a suitably serious and persuasive manner. It is clear, at least to me, that there
is no conspiracy, and the US government is itself puzzled by the data about unidentified anomalous phenomena.

The most notable claim from the hearings, including from former F-18 Navy pilot Ryan Graves, is that there have been
repeated sightings of highly unusual craft over eight years or more — confirmed by a mix of consistent radar, infrared
and eyewitness data. These craft, some of which take the shape of a sphere encompassing a cube, can both hover
and move very fast without any visible signs of propulsion.

Of course, there will always be people who lie, suffer from delusions or are otherwise unreliable. But none of these
claims is news to those of us who have been following the UAP debate, and it is striking that none of the elected
officials in the room challenged the Graves claims. (There was, in contrast, pushback against Grusch’s claims.)

Members of Congress, to the extent they desire, have independent access to military and intelligence sources.
They also have political ambitions, if only to be reelected. So the mere fact of their participation in these hearings
shows that UFOs/UAPs are now being taken seriously as an issue.

The Pentagon issued a statement claiming it holds no alien bodies, but it did nothing to contradict the statements of
Graves (or others with similar claims, outside the hearings). More broadly, there have been no signs of anyone with
eyewitness experience asserting that Graves and the other pilots are unreliable.

As is so often the case, the most notable events are those that did not happen. The most serious claims from the
hearings survived unscathed: those about inexplicable phenomena and possible national-security threats, not the
hypotheses about alien craft or visits.

The US military is a huge bureaucracy that is programmed to respond to potential national-security threats. If so many
insiders believe that the US does not control its own airspace, and in the proximity of its own military equipment, that
is a crisis of sorts, even if those insiders are misunderstanding the data.

The system will not do nothing indefinitely — and these hearings are best understood as an attempt to do something.
Some people in government had the idea that hearings would be useful, and no one had a better idea. If you listen
to the beginning of the hearings, you will hear a good articulation of the position that possible national-security and
aviation-safety threats cannot go forever uninvestigated. It is striking how often the discussion turned to national
security.

Every now and then, it’s appropriate to take the government literally.

I suspect that, from here on out, this topic will become more popular — and somewhat less respectable.
A few years ago, UAPs were an issue on which a few people “in the know” could speculate, secure in the knowledge
they weren’t going to receive much publicity or pushback. As the chatter increases, the issue will become more
prominent, but at the same time a lot of smart observers will dismiss the whole thing because they heard that
someone testified before Congress about seeing dead aliens.

I am well aware that many people may conclude that some US officials, or some parts of the US government, have
gone absolutely crazy. But even under that dismissive interpretation, it is likely that there will be further surprises.

A made-to-order cover story for generals looking to develop the national war chest. They opened official investigations with names like Grudge, Twinkle, Project Blue Book, Majestic 12. They brought in college professors and Congressmen and fed them enough bogus facts and fuzzy pictures and eyewitness accounts that they believed it, too. They even hooked Doug MacArthur, for God's sake. I can't tell you how fortuitous it was. Do you know when the first supersonic flight was, Agent Mulder? 1947. Soon every experimental aircraft being flown was a UFO sighting. When the abduction stories started up, it was too perfect. We almost got caught in Korea, an ambitious misstep. China and the Soviets knew it. The UN got all heated up at us.

MULDER: Germ warfare. We were accused of using it in the Korea.

KRITSCHGAU: It was developmental then, nothing like what we and the Russians have now. The bio-weapons used in the Gulf War were so ingenious as to be almost undetectable. Developed in this very building.

I came across a declassified 1975 Top Secret memo (PDF) originating from Marine Lt Col Robert Carl "Bud" McFarlane (July 12, 1937 – May 12, 2022) at the time was the Military Assistant to Henry Kissinger handling CCP intel / TO: USAF Lt Gen Brent Scowcroft (March 19, 1925 – August 6, 2020) in reference to the "National Underwater Reconnaissance Office", pg 14 #33:



Note this general Scowcroft had a long history going back as a military assistant to Pres Nixon and also advised Barack Obama on choosing his national security team.

Retired Navy Admiral Bobby Ray Inman (he's in his early 90s today) acknowledged (YT video that I'm amazed has barely any views & zero comments), that decades ago he served as director for the National Underwater Reconnaissance Office (NURO); yet despite this, to date (AFAIK) the government denies that the NURO even exists. Navy's Area 51 of data collection on/under the 7 seas.

On his resume submitted to Congress, "UFO whistleblower" David Grusch states he is currently the COO of "The SOL Foundation", founded by Garry Nolan.

On 17 December 2019, Leidos announced the purchase of Dynetics for US$1.65 billion, and acquisition was complete on 31 January 2020. Dynetics served as systems integrator for the development of what was then the world's largest precision-guided air-dropped system, the 22,600 lb (10,300 kg) MOAB bomb. In 2016, Dynetics was one of four companies to be awarded a contract by DARPA for an air-recoverable experimental unmanned aerial vehicle. One possibility here is that we're seeing the development of a spiritual movement (similiar back in the 50s) that's using its proximity to official and quasi-official state institutions as a kind of validation for its central beliefs. If it doesn't resonate enough with the general public, do they just mothball the project? Or reveal some "biologics" as proof? It's that problem of knowing something isn't real and that it's more complex and you can't come up with a single consolidated story that covers the entire area and therefore nobody can really say what  it is because it seems to be many things and if it is many things then it's the problem and is even more complex than you could imagine."

Intercept obtained UFO whistleblower information through FOIA

The long Intercept story...

“Non-human” biological material recovered from purported UFO crash sites. A decadeslong secret program to reverse-engineer extraterrestrial aircraft. A government cover-up employing “administrative terrorism” to silence truth-tellers.

These are some of the extraordinary claims made to Congress by Maj. David Grusch, a 36-year-old retired Air Force intelligence officer who also served as an adviser to the Pentagon’s Unidentified Aerial Phenomena task force. Last month, the House Oversight Committee opened an investigation after Grusch claimed he was retaliated against for blowing the whistle on the U.S. government’s alleged UAP recovery program.

Security clearances of the sort Grusch has held are subject to strict requirements, including regarding psychological episodes and substance issues. Grusch has used his high-level clearance to shore up his credibility, telling the committee: “I was cleared to literally all relevant compartments and in a position of extreme trust in both my military and civilian capacities.”

But police records obtained by The Intercept under the Virginia Freedom of Information Act reveal that on October 1, 2018, Grusch was committed to a mental health facility based in part on a report that he “made a suicidal statement” after Grusch’s wife told him he was an alcoholic and suggested that he get help.

“Husband asked [complainant] to kill him,” a police incident report produced by the Loudoun County sheriff states. “He is very angry guns are locked up.”

Grusch did not respond to a request for comment emailed via his lawyer or to a voicemail left on his phone. But on Tuesday evening, Ross Coulthart, an Australian independent journalist who covers UFOs and has interviewed Grusch, posted a statement attributed to Grusch on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

“It has come to my attention that The Intercept intends to publish an article about two incidents in 2014 and 2018 that highlights previous personal struggles I had with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Grief and Depression,” the statement reads. “As I stated under oath in my congressional testimony, over 40 credentialed intelligence and military personnel provided myself and my colleagues the information I transmitted to the Intelligence Community Inspector General (ICIG) and I took the leadership role to represent the concerns of these distinguished and patriotic individuals.”

A former colleague of Grusch’s expressed shock that he retained his clearance after the 2014 incident, which was also documented in public records obtained by The Intercept.

“I think it’s like any insular group: Once you’re in, they generally protect their own,” said the former colleague, who asked not to be named because they feared professional reprisals.

The former colleague said that the 2014 incident was known to Grusch’s superiors, a claim that Coulthart appeared to confirm in an interview on NewsNation, a subscription television network owned by Nexstar Media.

“The intelligence community and the Defense Department clearly accepted there was no issue because he was allowed to keep his security clearance,” Coulthart told Chris Cuomo Tuesday night.

“Waiting for You to Kill Me”

On the evening of October 1, 2018, Grusch’s wife contacted the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office to report that Grusch “was drunk” and suicidal, according to the incident report.

“She told him that he was an alcoholic and that he needed to get help,” according to a narrative account from the sheriff’s office. “He replied, ‘I’ve just been waiting for you to kill me.’”

Though the names are redacted, the documents describe a husband and wife at a home that Grusch and his wife owned at the time, according to Loudoun County records. The property has since been sold. The incident report also describes the subject as “Air International Guard” and previously Active Duty Air Force; Grusch served in the Air Force and the Air National Guard.

The man “could be violent, very strong,” the report notes, adding that he might be suffering from PTSD. “Sometimes makes these threats when drunk,” the report continues. “Has never harmed himself.”

The narrative case report describes law enforcement officers detaining Grusch under an emergency custody order and taking him to a local emergency room, where a mental health specialist decided to ask a magistrate to issue a temporary detention order. Based on the order, an officer transferred Grusch to Loudoun Adult Medical Psychiatric Services, an inpatient program in the Inova Loudoun Cornwall Medical Campus in Leesburg.

A separate police report dated October 13, 2014, describes a similar incident: a 27-year-old male “threatening suicide” at a property that county records show was owned at the time by Grusch and his ex-wife, Kendall McMurray. That property has since been sold. The report notes that “he is violent” and “has access to a weapon.”

McMurray did not respond to multiple requests for comment.

Public Law Enforcement Records

Two Republican members of the House Oversight Committee, Reps. Anna Paulina Luna and Tim Burchett, were tasked with organizing the July 26 hearing after Grusch’s whistleblower claims became public. Not all House Republicans are supportive of the effort. Rep. Mike Turner, chair of the House Intelligence Committee, has taken a dim view of Grusch’s claims.

“Every decade there’s been individuals who’ve said the United States has such pieces of unidentified flying objects that are from outer space,” Turner said. “There’s no evidence of this and certainly it would be quite a conspiracy for this to be maintained, especially at this level.”

Shortly after The Intercept reached out to Grusch for comment for this story, Coulthart went on Cuomo’s show and said that The Intercept was planning to publish “confidential medical records” about Grusch that had been leaked by the intelligence community. Coulthart, an ardent defender of Grusch, told NewsNation that “Grusch believes the government may now be behind an effort to release his medical records in an effort to smear his credibility.”

“This is a document that would be, if the media had done the right thing, it would be in his police department file, in the file in the county sheriff’s office,” Coulthart said in his interview with Cuomo. “But Dave has checked today, because he assumed that the journalist had done his homework and just asked the local sheriff for the files. The sheriff has confirmed it did not come from him. The only other place that had this information is the intelligence community, Dave’s personal files inside the intelligence community, where quite properly, when anybody is security assist, things like this have to be looked at, and somebody inside the intelligence community leaked it.”

Coulthart went on to compare the purported leak to Richard Nixon’s attempts to discredit Daniel Ellsberg, who shared the Pentagon Papers with the New York Times.

“I think there should be an inquiry into the circumstances of how sensitive records pertaining to a decorated combat veteran’s file found their way to a journalist not through the proper channels,” Coulthart said. “This could’ve been requested under FOI, as is normal, but the county sheriff has confirmed that did not happen.”

In an interview Wednesday morning, Burchett repeated the false claim that Grusch’s medical records had been leaked, going as far as to say that “someone needs to lose their job.”

The records were not confidential, medical, nor leaked. They are publicly available law enforcement records obtained under a routine Virginia FOIA request to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office and provided by the office’s FOIA coordinator. Copies of The Intercept’s correspondence with the sheriff’s office are being published with this story.

In a clip from a previous interview with Coulthart that was included in Tuesday’s Cuomo segment, Grusch suggested that his struggle with PTSD was behind him.

“I served in Afghanistan and I had a friend that committed suicide after I got back,” Grusch told Coulthart. “I dealt with that for a couple years and I’m proud as a veteran not to become a statistic. Totally took care of that issue in my life and it doesn’t affect me anymore.”

Echoes of Roswell

Coulthart’s comments would not be the first instance of misinformed media coverage of Grusch’s case. The law firm representing Grusch, Compass Rose Legal Group, issued a statement in June warning of “misstatements” in media reporting about the nature of their representation of Grusch, which they stressed was “narrowly scoped.”

“The whistleblower disclosure did not speak to the specifics of the alleged classified information that Mr. Grusch has now publicly characterized, and the substance of that information has always been outside of the scope of Compass Rose’s representation,” the statement says. “Compass Rose took no position and takes no position on the contents of the withheld information.”

Grusch’s ability to keep his security clearance appears to contrast with the government’s treatment of other employees. Shortly after President Joe Biden’s inauguration, for example, dozens of White House staffers were reportedly denied clearances for past marijuana use — including in states where it was legal.

In June, technology website The Debrief first reported on Grusch’s whistleblower disclosure, casting him as a “decorated former combat officer” — a phrase echoed repeatedly by Coulthart.

“I’d like to point out that finding a decorated veteran who believes all sorts of insane conspiracy theories is not remarkable,” cracked Jack Murphy, a former Army Ranger turned journalist. “I know many, and some would love it if I wrote stories about George Soros, JFK, etc.”

The Debrief article was co-authored by Leslie Kean, whose 2017 New York Times article helped drive much of the current wave of interest in UAPs.


The Defense Department has flatly denied possessing “any verifiable information to substantiate claims that any programs regarding the possession or reverse-engineering of extraterrestrial materials have existed in the past or exist currently,” Pentagon spokesperson Sue Gough has said.

“The recent UFO hearing is an embarrassment to everyone involved,” Steven Aftergood, a longtime critic of government secrecy and former director of the Federation of American Scientists’ Project on Government Secrecy, told The Intercept. “It’s a symptom of the broader degradation of congressional discourse: by providing a forum for preposterous claims and failing to challenge them, the House committee makes legitimate oversight more difficult.”

During the committee hearing, Luna referenced the 1947 discovery of mysterious aerial debris in the desert in Roswell, New Mexico, as evidence of long-standing contact with UFOs. Jesse A. Marcel, a military intelligence officer — and, like Grusch, an Air Force major at the time — said that the debris was extraterrestrial in nature, but it later became clear that it was actually the remains of a weather balloon designed to detect atmospheric conditions indicative of Russian nuclear testing.

For many years, the Pentagon refused to explain the weather balloon’s true purpose due to its highly classified nature as part of Project Mogul, a top-secret Air Force program designed to detect Soviet bomb tests. Many took the secrecy, which was indeed excessive, to mean that the government must be covering up the existence of extraterrestrial aircraft.

Aftergood said the misconception at the heart of the recent House hearing is similar to the legends that grew out of the events in Roswell: “The embarrassment of the House hearings stems not so much from the issue itself but from the failure to distinguish what is real from what is fantasy.”

No smoking, no dancing, no non-christian literature and it's entirely secular. Oh my. To even attend, you have to already be very much indoctrinated and in various ways prove that to them. Most Wheaton grads go on to be missionaries or work in highly conservative circles, not internet trolls. The fact this kid even got in is rather strange. Billy Graham, the homophobic, racist and xenophobic speaker is a cornerstone of the institution.
