"...Inflation was about 10% and some 1.5 million people were unemployed, compared to some 1 million in 1974,

I managed to get a job where my father worked -a newspaper company, and with my ear closer to the drumbeats
of communication would ensure that I'd be able to gauge the destruction of the place I was born. The UK slowly
got back on its feet and unemployment became a word that faded away from the mainstream media's lexicon.

UK Parliament Library:
"The unadjusted claimant count was 1.57 million in April 2023, which was 46,700 more than the month before and
342,000 more than in March 2020. Following the start of the pandemic, the claimant count more than doubled
while the rise in unemployment was much smaller...'

The Guardian:
"Unemployment in the UK could be three times higher than shown by official government figures, according to
a report exposing a stark north-south divide in the number of people out of work because of long-term sickness..."
"...The study found that more than 3 million people are missing from the headline unemployment rate because
they report themselves as economically inactive to government labour force surveys..."
"...Almost 9 million people in the UK are classified as “economically inactive” in official labour market estimates,
including students, adults with caring responsibilities, people in retirement, and those experiencing ill health..."
If the sky was falling in because of a percentage of a nation was out of work forty years-ago, how can it be that
same country that is accused of not breeding have the same amount unemployed and the media fail to renew
their panic narrative?!
Words and the arrangement of them have created a false reality and the annoying dilemma of the Press is that
when an alternative reality begins to erode, they must mould the narrative with a positive tone to calm those
with memories.
It's about th same situation over here, despite the "fun with numbers" that the BidenHarris regime is propagandizing. See, "unemployment" numbers have gone down here on paper due to some mathematical sleight of hand - they only count folks on the unemployment rolls as "unemployed", while unemployed folk who aren't collecting unemployment are classified as "employed" for government and propaganda purposes.
As an example, my last job ended on 9 Sep 2019, when the site closed down unexpectedly. So I signed up for unemployment until I could find another job. Unemployment subsidies here last for 6 months, giving one time to find another job before the net is dropped. Then, the scamdemic hit after a couple months, and suddenly no one was hiring, and other places were closing down, too, leaving fewer jobs to get hired for in the middle of a panic. In response, the Federal government extended unemployment payments for up to a year, and increased the subsidy amount temporarily.
But still, no one was hiring. When the increased payment time of a year was up, we were still in the grips of the scamdemic, and still, no one was hiring as local businesses continued to go under. However, once one had exhausted their unemployment payments and fallen off the rolls, they were suddenly counted as "employed", despite their lack of work. So after August 2020, I was no longer "unemployed", and not counted in the numbers... and that had the net effect of pushing the BidenHarris "unemployment" figures for first and subsequent fiscal quarters 2021 artificially down. All the people who had become unemployed due to the scamdemic after me, deep into the throes of the panic, also started falling off the rolls, which made numbers "look" better than they actually were.
So, even up to today, the BidenHarris regime gets to go along crowing about the "low unemployment" figures, despite the fact that those figures are a lie, and fail to account for quite a few people who are still unemployed.
I'm unemployed now, still, by choice. I've gone "John Galt", and refuse to contribute to the failure of western society that they are currently engineering. If they insist on crashing the system, I fail to see any reason that I should swirl down the drain with it, so I've checked out, hopped off their merry-go-round.
But I'm still, technically and for the purpose of figures, "unemployed", but just not counted by the government as such. They can't "see" my unemployment, because I've jumped off their number-crunching rolls.
And on life goes! I'm counted as "employed" because I am neither on the unemployment rolls nor on Social Security, so I'm "invisible" for the purpose of government figures, and simply assumed to be employed for their quarterly reports to make the BidenHarris regime look good.
All those jobs that BidenHarris claim to have "created" are nothing of the kind - they are just pre-pandemic jobs re-opening, not new jobs "created"... and we are still not back to pre-scamdemic job levels. There are a lot of places here still permanently closed, who could not financially weather the closures caused by the scamdemic, and who never recovered.
But that is how they fudge them numbers over here to make themselves look good, at the expense of their constituency.
