Senate Democrats unveiled a new bill that would pack the Supreme Court by adding four new seats beyond the current nine seats, a move that could lead to the loss of the court’s current conservative majority.
The legislation comes after President Joe Biden’s commission on Supreme Court reform failed in December 2021 to recommend expanding the size of the nation’s highest court.
Sen. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) unveiled his new legislation, the proposed Judiciary Act of 2023 (pdf), at a press conference on the steps of the Supreme Court on May 16.
“Our most fundamentally held freedoms are under attack from an illegitimate, far-right United States Supreme Court,” Markey said.
“And if we fail to act, it will only get worse. We must fix this broken and illegitimate court. We must expand the United States Supreme Court.”
Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) also railed against the Supreme Court, saying it is “in desperate need of reform.”

Markey can carry his authoritarian commie ass right back to Commieland whenever he feels froggy. Clearly he'd feel more at home there.
You can tell he is a commie by his over-the-top and ridiculous rhetoric aimed at whipping up the masses by stimulating emotion and suppressing logic. They have always done that, and probably always will, as long as they are allowed to exist.
Example: "Our most fundamentally held freedoms are under attack from an illegitimate, far-right United States Supreme Court," Clearly in error. Our "most fundamentally held freedoms" are guaranteed by the Bill of Rights, which the SCOTUS was instituted to protect... and that is what they are currently doing. For example, the 2nd Amendment - they're preserving it against a communist onslaught from the authoritarian Left via such rulings as Heller and Bruin. Logic dictates that the "attack" Markey claims is NOT coming from the Supreme Court, but rather is in fact coming from HIM, and people like him.
That's just how Authoritarians roll, I guess.
So, in point of fact, the US Supreme Court is neither "broken" nor "illegitimate" - tweo favorite accusations of communists against their victims, by the way - but is functioning exactly as intended in the Constitution. I'd like to see how he believes it to be "illegitimate", but unfortunately he will never show his work on that question, because he can't.
Interesting times we live in. Interesting times as in that old Chinese curse of "may you live in interesting times".
