40-some mass shootings this year so far. I would say that is not true but since the definition of "mass shooting" and "shooting" are subjective to whomever is discussing the matter, we can claim anything. There have been indeed 40+ incidents recorded at the link below.
HOWEVER, this list includes what the media wants you to imagine as a "mass" shooting (there are two of those) and then a lot of shootings in urban areas. They all get lumped together.
The only time the media cares about young people getting killed in urban areas is when they need an attention grabbing headline. Other than that, you will never hear about it. I wonder what we call it when the media ignores brown people because they think they are not important?
Make it sensational and scary. Never address root causes. Emphasize victims who are relatable and tragic. Ignore everybody else. Always make the appeal for more governmental control. Never address that governmental control is already in heavy affect in many of these areas. Always have politicians on instant standby for sound bite pseudo-outrage. Do not ask them questions, only offer pre-approved leading statements. Make the sure news anchors appear genuinely shocked and saddened.
