My brother and I used to collect comic books when we were kids. They'd come in a plastic wrapper that made the middle one a crap shoot. I remember we got the #1 Spiderman, the #1 Fantastic Four, and the #1 Incredible Hulk more than a couple of times ... and just traded the extra ones away.
The only other decent collectible I had was a complete set of Tampa Bay's football cards from their initial roster . They trained at Stetson University and the entire team was forced to sign every card every kid had under the threat of being cut if they made anyone cry. I remember kids left because they were just tired of waiting in line. We got signed cards from players who didn't even make it onto the team.
My brother went off to college and I joined the Army. Mom gave it all away. I took great pleasure in showing her how much that stuff was worth. As memory serves the Spiderman #1 was worth over $100K when I told her and we must have had all of 'em in sequence up to #75 or so. No idea what those football cards were ever worth.
Probably not good to even remember those days.
