I can talk for quite a while about distinct worldlines, the many-worlds interpretation, John Wheeler, and the possibility that we’re not simply moving forward, but drifting into parallel outcomes.
Back on ATS, I spent a lot of time discussing time travelers, MWI. Enough that I was more or less using those discussions to anticipate events before they unfolded. Some of it was half in jest, but not all of it. I argued with the usual skeptics there, people like thatsjustweird, phoenixhighpriest, and others who were convinced the whole subject belonged in the trash.
They laughed at the idea that racism could surge again, as if it were something history had already settled and left behind.
It's crazy on how much of what was being discussed did, in one form or another, come to pass. The social fragmentation. The racial tension. The slow emergence of civil unrest conditions. The sense that things were under strain and drifting toward something less stable. At the time it was dismissed as fantasy. I’d be curious what they make of it now.
We also talked about a WW3 window, including when nuclear exchange could return as a real possibility rather than a memory of the past. As predicted on ATS, we’re possibly now inside that window. It was all there on ATS. Someone probably still has it archived.
One of the more interesting things to come out of those discussions on worldlines and time travel was another ATS user I ran into who seemed credible, not one of the usual attention seekers. He claimed to have inside information that the U.S. was in contact with something originating from a worldline slightly ahead of ours, with slightly different outcomes. I stayed in touch with him through email for a while, and then one day he just disappeared.
He would say... most people assume reality is singular because it’s easier that way.
Anyway, it was a fun rabbit hole.
Some of those old conversations don’t feel so crazy anymore.
