Because we've got 3 carrier group there already? How many more do you suppose we'll need to put there? I think we max out at around 11, so there is a limit to what we can send.
It looks to me like the "silence", at least in the case of France and (finally) the UK, is because they are already busy steaming towards the area. Maybe too busy working the rigging to make any statements?
Most other countries with the exception of Russia and China, just don't have enough navy to send... and I really don't expect either Russia or China to enter the fight in any overt way.
Maybe a better question might be: why is the US declining escort duty for ships traversing the straights after initially suggesting it themselves? Now THAT is a question! I don't have the answer for it.
