Quote:Cutting the fuel duty is very short term and will reduce the government coffers..... and the books will still need balancing, and our debt needs to be paid. We default on that and we become a 3rd world overnight.
Regardless whether people support this war or not.... we are in it by proxy all the same, just like other countries.
Now is the time to start making ourselves self sufficient with oil and food supply...... and we have the means to do it.
This is one move I disagree with Rupert on as it's driven by fear not pragmatism. We have not dropped any bombs on Iran, and I very much doubt we will, I'll be very surprised if we do.
Rising fuel prices means rising costs in shops as the extra cost is passed on the the consumer which leads to higher inflation and interest costs for home owners ,rising fuel prices are also a pay cut for working Brits who have to travel to work , not giving free money to illegal migrants and housing them in secure accommodation before deporting them would save more money than reducing fuel duty as would not scrapping the 2 child benefit cap.
It is not our responsibility to aid Israel and the US in its Crusade around Iran or wherever Israel decides to bomb next , we played that game during Blair's tenure which cost this Country many Billions and opened the floodgate of migration from those countries , asylum seekers from Iran are already one of the largest demographics in asylum cases , this will increase.
I hope Starmer sticks to his guns and does not get dragged into this as he did in the Genocide in the Palestinian territories , with our finances already in a sorry state and migration leading us to a tipping point Rupert's stance is sensible , if Israel and the US want to fight the World then that is their choice but after last time I think we are right to sit this one out.
Rupert's concern is how this war will effect our Country , not supporting regime change in a foreign Country and a war that will be detrimental to this Country is the only sensible course of action when can't even send HMS Dragon to protect our interests in Cyprus.
# Not our War.
