You are correct mate , JWST uses Infra-red for the reasons you postulate and to see further back in time due to light stretching into the Infra-red spectrum the further it travels.

If we were an intelligent species we would already have optical and Infra-Red telescope's on the Moon , sadly we are far behind where we could be by now.
