This would've been late '88-early '89. Being prior to the age of cell phones, social media and the 24hr news cycle, it's not surprising. To be fair, the main information distribution machine at that time was E-4's and dependas.
I was stationed at a small kaserne with a BN of MLRS+support, BN of 155's+support and small contingents (2-3 Batteries worth) of MP's, COMMS, and Legals.
Really interesting that predated the Fall of the Wall. I was back in Germany in the early 90s and the far right was already feeling its oats then.
