81 years ago today, on January 27, 1945, the Red Army (Soviet 322nd Rifle Division) liberated Auschwitz-Birkenau extermination camp.




Jan 27, 1951: Today marks 75 years since the first nuclear blast at the Nevada Test Site, code-named "Able." It was produced by a 1-kt air-dropped bomb by a B-50 bomber over Frenchman Flat, 65 miles from Las Vegas. This was the first of five tests in Operation Ranger, intended to gather data for Operation Greenhouse in the Pacific. In the following years there were 99 more atmospheric tests at NTS. Of course, over the next ten plus testing years, Sin City would capitalize on it in every way possible.

"The End of the Whole Mess", sci-fi story by Stephen King, first published in Omni Magazine Oct 1986. Refers to the Doomsday Clock being set at fifteen seconds before midnight due to elevated geopolitical tension. Story collected in King's Nightmares & Dreamscapes in 1993. The story is written in the form of a personal journal, and tells the story of an attempt to cure humanity's aggressive tendencies.


A TV adaptation of the story was produced by TNT as part of Nightmares & Dreamscapes: From the Stories of Stephen King.

These fools made the Doomsday clock a joke when they moved the hand up not once, but three times during Trump's first term and only once during Biden's term who caused or rather forced the Russians to invade Ukraine!


So here we are again this day, for the second time in Trump's second term they move the clock up 4 seconds to 85 seconds to midnight. When if the Clock ever strikes midnight I guess these folks are out of a job. I thought these scientists would have waited till after February 5th, when the New START Treaty either expires or is renewed. If Trump refuses to renew the Treaty which is the last remaining nuclear arms control treaty between the United States and Russia, then expect Putin to make a move, "Acta non Verba", give another demonstration or perhaps not since that TREATY does NOT cover Russia's new weapons which can be nuclear armed. Course the Bulletin scientists will move the clock up again.

Well, this will fuel the media maelstrom for this week.
