George Kennan on NATO expansion (May 2, 1998):
"I think it is the beginning of a new cold war," said Mr. Kennan from his Princeton home. "I think the Russians will gradually react quite adversely and it will affect their policies. I think it is a tragic mistake. There was no reason for this whatsoever. No one was threatening anybody else. This expansion would make the Founding Fathers of this country turn over in their graves. We have signed up to protect a whole series of countries, even though we have neither the resources nor the intention to do so in any serious way. [NATO expansion] was simply a light-hearted action by a Senate that has no real interest in foreign affairs... Of course there is going to be a bad reaction from Russia, and then [the NATO expanders] will say that we always told you that is how the Russians are -- but this is just wrong."

Only in broken Britain does it make sense to relocate sensitive data cables away from a hostile power - at tremendous cost to the taxpayer and with disruptive potential to business - rather than refusing to allow a Chinese spy embassy to be built in the first place. What a mess.

Suddenly, Larry Fink and the elites in Davos have switched from going all in on climate change to now, all in on AI. No more shilling for wind and solar, AI cannot survive on intermittent energy. They are now all in on coal burning powerplants and nuclear power. No matter the issue, everyone associated with WEF has lost all credibility, on any issue, forever. The Davos crowd deserve nothing but eternal ridicule.
The US has signaled that trade talks with the UK are on hold as it accused Keir Starmer of "letting us down" over the Chagos Islands. I knew this was going to eventually bite Starmer in the ass. The ongoing war between Washington and City of London.

Donald Trump (while speaking at Davos) completely trashes the UK government’s energy policy - and in particular, the lack of oil and gas exploitation in the North Sea and high electricity prices. Even Norway agrees with Trump on that note.
Mark Carney admits the international Rules-Based Order was a useful fiction, that it was shameful to participate in its rituals and that it's come to an end. Strong and surprising stuff (?) coming from a liberal establishment banker elite, especially compared to the gutless stammerings of his peers.
Mark Carney at Davos:
"We knew that the story about the rules-based order was partially false... We knew that international law applied with varying rigor depending on the identity of the accused and the victim. This fiction was useful [because of the goods provided by American hegemony]... So we placed the sign in the window. We participated in the rituals. And we largely avoided calling out the gaps between rhetoric and reality. This bargain no longer works. Let me be direct. We are in the midst of a rupture, not a transition... You cannot live within the lie of mutual benefit through integration when integration becomes the source of your subordination."
The Carney speech (and reaction to same) is the formal declaration of something that has been fairly obvious for sometime: The US is going to be the official bad guy moving forward.
It represents selfishness, individuality and old-fashioned imperialist thinking, while the "enlightened" liberals talk up post-national global cooperation. Yet, of course the entire "liberal" Twitterati is trying to hype it into some kind of cultural moment. Like when an important" movie comes out, gets reviews through the roof and wins every award and then vanishes from collective memory.
Things like that are only worth studying for the meta, it’s in their contrived moments the establishment reveals what you’re supposed to believe and why. A globalist banker pretending to not be a globalist technocrat? Hahaha.

Quote:And that’s why you have Donald Trump strutting around the world stage playing the villain. Rambling about Greenland and asylums and peace prizes, precisely so the public will boo and hiss while chosen leaders for the globalist future can appear calm and articulate in their opposition.
It’s been a predictable for a long while, but 2026 may be the year the USA officially becomes “the bad guy”, a paper dragon for our globalist heroes to slay.
The old (imaginary) “rules-based international order” will collapse, and we will build back better.
