Shortly after the Tony Kiritsis hostage standoff in Indianapolis in February of 1977, there was interest in adapting the story for a made-for-TV movie for NBC. 48 years later, Gus Van Sant's feature film DEAD MAN'S WIRE is in theaters Jan 16, 2026.

On February 8, 1977, Tony Kiritsis entered the office of Richard Hall, president of the Meridian Mortgage Company, and took him hostage with a sawed-off shotgun wired with a "dead man's wire" from the trigger to Tony's own neck. His revolution was televised.
Nicolas Cage was set to play Tony Kristis and Werner Herzog was directing, shooting was scheduled to take place in August 2024 but for production reasons it was delayed to early 2025 then Cage couldn't do it due to his commitment with Amazon Studios and Herzog was not interested in directing the film without Cage, both filmmakers were replaced.
