That guy has a tendency to get panicky and read more into reports than is actually there, probably trying to alarm the rest of the world up to his own panicky level.
For example, "unusual pattern" can also be read as "erratic trajectory", and could just as easily mean that they can't steer their missiles very well instead of having some new "super missile tech that makes a missile bob and weave", which I think is probably more likely. More likely that they don't know how to steer a missile, that is. Oddly, perhaps, not being able to steer their missiles is probably the more dangerous option for innocent bystander nations - think "2 year old with a loaded gun". Makes everyone in the room unsafe, not just their intended target.
As far as I know, the biggest nuke NK has ever tested was only about 1/2 to 1 kiloton. We've blown up bigger explosions with nothing but fertilizer as the bomb. North Korea is a toddler playing at being one of he Big Boys, and they think they've arrived now just because they figured out how to split an atom...
