That’s why you see these tiny white trails:
Short, thick lines = alpha particles.
Long, thin lines = beta particles.
Every streak you see is a real particle released during radioactive decay. This is one of the simplest ways to "see" radiation and it's a normal natural process happening all around us. The cloud chamber makes the particle tracks look dramatic because the vapor condenses instantly along their paths.
