Dec 5, 1957: Navy Reports Success On Solid-Fuel IRBM
"Rear Adm William F. Raborn, director of the fleet ballistic missiles program said today the Navy has solved all the basic problems in the development of what is believed to be the world's first solid propellant IRBM, the ship-based Polaris."


Raborn resigned from the CIA on June 30, 1966, having served for only fourteen months as DCI and touted as a total failure. He was replaced by his deputy, Richard Helms who as we later came to know was far, far worse. Brother Raborn should have retired to a greener pasture and avoided the intel community.
