Dec 3, 1960: The musical Camelot debuts at the Majestic Theatre on Broadway,  starring Richard Burton, Julie Andrews, Roddy McDowall and introducing Robert Goulet. It will become associated with the Kennedy administration.



The musical has become associated with the Presidency of John F. Kennedy, which is sometimes called the "Camelot Era", because of a LIFE magazine December 1963 interview by Theodore H. White with Jackie Kennedy in which she compared her husband's presidency to King Arthur's reign, specifically mentioning his fondness for the musical and particularly the closing lyrics of the eponymous final song.

According to Jackie, JFK's favorite lines were in the final number:
"Don't let it be forgot
That once there was a spot
For one brief, shining moment
That was known as Camelot".

This is unreal. The new Japanese PM Sanae Takaichi just told an audience of Saudi investors, quoting from a manga:

"Just shut your mouths and invest everything in me!! Just shut up and invest in me, all of you."



Even more bizarre, in said manga: "Attack on Titan" - the character saying that line (Eren Yeager ends up dying while attempting to kill all of humanity outside his island nation ("Paradis Island"). Not exactly a great character to emulate when you're Japan, an island nation with a long history of imperial expansion and atrocities and major earthquakes. Very awkward on multiple levels...

Nearly all the government legions of Europe plus Japan seem to be copying the circus rhetoric of the White House. And Trump from day to day you never know what he may say...

I can envision darkly on Trump's last day in Office saying, "I fooled ya'll again...now look at you, ruined, but have hope, America in the next term will help rebuild your nations just like after WWII."
