I was under the impression that it was 1) an EU convention, binding only on EU members, and 2) that the UK had exited the EU, making it null and void upon the UK. So, it's clear that I fail to understand the politics of the convention or any requirements for the UK to sit down and beg the EU for permissions regarding it.
Sadly mate when we left the EU we didn't leave its institutions like the European court system and the ECHR because our political class didn't want to actually leave the EU so we were left with one foot in and one foot out , supporters of Brexit called for a cutting of all ties with the EU because that was the only way Brexit would be meaningful , hopefully if we get a Reform government next time that wrong will be righted although to be honest I'm not convinced we will be allowed to have a Reform government next time.
It's an interesting strategy - to leave the EU by not leaving the EU. Clearly, your politicians are far more capable and complex diabolical mastermind strategists than I, because I just don't see quite how that is going to work.
