I'm not British, and so really have mo legitimate say in the matter, but if I were asked about it in, say, a non-voter survey, I'd be good with erecting a tall wall entirely around London, and just putting Snake Plisskin on standby.
London was founded by invaders (Romans) of The Enchanted Isles - who became the foreign overlords of the land for 400 years - and it's sort of fitting that London be destroyed by invaders as well.
Ireland has it's "Book of the Invasions of Ireland", and the rest of Britain should have theirs, too. The Romans, then the Angles, Saxons, and Jutes, the Vikings, and then later the Normans... all were invaders, sometimes overlords, and all left their mark on the British people. I'm a product myself of all of the above, mostly the original Celtic tribes that invaded and took over from the Mesolithic hunters and gatherers. I've got a small bit of those hunter-gatherers in me, too.
This current overrunning of British shores may just be the latest installment. It certainly will be, if the native British don't fight back. Maybe we should just turn a fresh page and prepare for another entry in the "Book of the Invasions of Britain".
There were spikes in violence during all of those previous invasions, too. Because that's what invaders do - they come prepared to conquer.
And that is a violent process.

“Trouble rather the tiger in his lair than the sage among his books. For to you kingdoms and their armies are things mighty and enduring, but to him they are but toys of the moment, to be overturned with the flick of a finger.”
