this one came out before he supposedly admitted he sold his soul to the devil on 60 mins. was on the sound track which he wrote the songs for the movie and stared in called Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid .
i'm pretty sure everybody knows this one, it's about his son who died at a young age. question is does he think he'll be there, or will never see him again. i think he talking about right now here on earth myself when he says he don't belong.
side note, the song first came out in a sound track for a movie and Clapton only wrote the first verse and another guy Will Jennings wrote the rest. he didn't want to he asked clapton to finish,but clapton wouldn't. Clapton has retried the song.
