The good news is that a lot of
are about to hit the surplus market.
The bad news is, they're going to quit making them, so best buy 'em up while you can.
The new alternatives they are putting out
don't really trip my trigger, so I reckon it's a good thing I'm too damned old to get drafted.
The article did give me reason for concern on Today's Military - "plant based" food? Really? And "plant based animal crackers" - aren't ALL animal crackers made from flour which comes from... a plant? "Vegetarian meals"? "Kosher and halal meals"?
What kinda wussies are they letting in to the military these days? Just slap some shit on a couple of shingles, chow down, and drive on, trooper!
Or, if you wanna go REALLY Old School, just pack up some pemmican and hard tack. Pemmican has a shelf life of around 20 or 30 years if it's made right, and those big-assed crackers they put in MRE's are already pretty damned close to hard tack, just a lot thinner.
