From 1896: "In London one may see strange things. [...] But the sight of a pug dog with clothes, boots, and even an umbrella to protect him from the sun or rain is something new."

Interesting how back then they referred to school children or students as "scholars" which going by the definition at least back (1910-11 Webster dictionary) then was the correct common usage...until at some later point when American society was infected by British "scholars". I dunno, just a thought.

Sept 23, 1970: TORA! TORA! TORA! premiered. The spectacular scene with a Curtiss P-36A Hawk crashing into other fighters was an accident caused when the stunt radio-controlled plane went out of control. The crew seen running for their lives were not acting. The director decided to use the shot. The actual attack on Pearl Harbor cost Japan $900,000 but 20th Century Fox spent $8 million to reenact it. The Navy's participation in the production was criticized as being a misuse of ships and personnel when Americans were fighting in Vietnam.
Some critics denounced it as being an "affront to veterans" because the film included the Japanese perpective that "glamorized the attack on Pearl Harbor." Other critics were outraged that one of the attack's planners, General Minoru Genda, was invited to a screening in Washington, D.C. as a special guest.
