Sept 18, 1984: the crew of the Soviet freighter SS Bratstvo was forced to abandon ship in the Strait of Gibraltar due to flooding. The crew initially believed that there had been an explosion in the engine room but it was soon learned that Bratstvo had been punctured in a collision with the Victor I-class submarine K-53. K-53 suffered a severely damaged bow and had to go to Tunisia for urgent repairs. Bratstvo was towed to Spain where it was scrapped.

The downside to cutting off the Internet, proscribing education, etc. while technology develops at an ever increasing rate is that to Afghans everything will soon be witchcraft.

Even with the Internet, the global public is losing the race to stay in control. As technology advances beyond comprehension will we enter a new age of magic where ignorant peasants conjure mighty powers through AI agents?

With AI, users could command powerful outcomes—say, generating art, solving equations, or automating tasks -- with no idea how it was being done. All they need do is read from the Book of Spells, the AI prompt and abracadabra, alakazam, hocus pocus and suddenly Shazaam!!!


According to a medieval legend, the Jewish Kabbalist and Talmudic scholar Rabbi Loew ben Bezalel created a golem in the 16th century. When the Holy Roman Emperor Rudolf II became suspicious of the Jews and started persecuting them, Rabbi Loew used magic to make an automaton out of clay that would protect his people. This legendary Golem of Prague defended the Jews against their persecutors by patrolling the streets of the ghettos and growing stronger every time they were accused.

However, it eventually grew out of control and started destroying everything. Then, Rabbi Loew was forced to turn the golem back into dust. He did this by removing the magical word written on its forehead, which was "truth". Ironically, artificial intelligence has been compared to a modern day golem. And maybe the most famous AI of all, Grok, was originally named TruthGPT. Grok has even turned on its own creator, Elon, a few times too. Maybe this is all by design though. Maybe they are just following the same old medieval script. It seems X is only allowing "free speech" right now so it can gather enough data to make Grok truly sentient and trigger the Singularity Event. Then, AI will be powerful enough to destroy the whole world! So, all of these viral conspiracy theories are only bait. Exposing them actually feeds the machine. Even if they are true, we are somehow serving them. After all, X is their platform!

This morning the SpaceX Falcon 9 launch from Florida was visible over Pittsburgh, and it could not have been in a more perfect location. Centered directly over the city, the rocket and its exhaust were lit up by the rising sun, creating an amazing scene from the West End.
