The hyphen in the city name was dropped on Dec 1, 1896, soon after the newspaper was bought by Adolph S. Ochs.

The helicopter was supporting a search and rescue effort for a lost hiker. All four crewmembers survived without injury and were rescued the following day.

The Western mind cannot rationalize this kind of "Minority Report" (and host of other dystopian films) surveillance and draconian totalitarian life. Well, at least I can't. You'd think by now there would be a resistance faction that rises up and fights back. But, I guess that only occurs in the movies. I mean afterall, if you were born and raised in a prison would you know the difference between slave and freedom? Looking back on the brainwashing stories from the Korean War it appears after generational practice the Nokors have mastered this insidious art form.

Quote:Aviation pioneer Igor Sikorsky’s decades-long dream of building a helicopter finally paid off in 1938, when he convinced the United Aircraft executives to let him develop a machine that would revolutionize the aviation industry.
Then, as Sikorsky’s newest creation lifted off the ground vertically and with him inside it, the VS-300 became America's first practical and amphibious helicopter. The experimental machine was also the first helicopter to use a single vertical-plane tail rotor configuration for anti-torque successfully.
But it was when the helicopter broke a long-held record by the Germans that the world really paid attention, setting the stage for the development of larger and better helicopters born out of the passion and perseverance of one man…
