Surf pioneer Ron DiMenna passed away yesterday at the age of 88. After serving as a U.S. Marine in the 1950s, DiMenna helped surfing become a mainstream sport by founding Ron Jon Surf Shop in 1959 in Ship Bottom, New Jersey which grew into an iconic franchise. The flagship store HQ in Cocoa Beach, Florida, is the largest surf shop in the world.
