Joe Hickerson, who as a singer and songwriter and the lead archivist for folk music at the Library of Congress for over 25 years helped expand and preserve America’s trove of field songs, sea shanties and other traditional tunes, has died at 89.

Las Vegas secret underground nuclear fallout shelter house on Spencer St is officially up for sale again. Listed at just $8.5 million this time. (The asking price was $18 million in 2019.) Safest place in Sin City. LOL!
To access the underground home, a stairwell or a 23 ft (7.0 m) elevator descent takes people below ground level, opening into the entry of the residence. The underground property consists of several key features, including the 6,000 sq ft home centered in the 16,000 sq ft lot.

The underground property has changed hands over the years. The property sold in 1990 for $1.3 million after Henderson passed away, and again in 2005 for $2 million. The current owners bought it in 2014 for $1,150,000. In 2019 it was again on the market for $18 million, then in 2024 reduced to $5.9 million. The purchasers, under the name "Society for the Preservation of Near Extinct Species," made the decision to maintain their anonymity while acquiring the property, which is now recognized as the Stasis Foundation.
Ready to Experience the Legend?
Fremont Street's Golden Gate Casino is getting rid of all human dealers, including its iconic dancing dealers, and replacing them with electronic robot table games. Shock & horror! This is the first complete transition to electronic tables for a Downtown Las Vegas casino.

All affected human dealers are being offered jobs at sister properties, with no layoffs reported...for now. We already know that Vegas is slowly but surely changing, morphing into a different kind of Sin City. This moment however, clearly marks the end of an era and what comes after, is anyone's bet!
Meanwhile, the number of visitors to Las Vegas fell 12% in July and is down 8% year-to-date, with about 2 million fewer so far in 2025, according to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. However, Nevada casinos won $1.36 billion from gamblers in July — a 4% increase over July 2024. The Vegas Strip generated $749 million, a 5.6% jump. Downtown Las Vegas casinos brought in $74.4 million, up 3.6%.
Currently, Vegas is not dead yet, BUT it is the slowest that locals have ever seen it in the past 20 years. Example A: paid $17.99 for a large coffee and a croissant at Flamingo, $9 for a liter of water and $9 for a Give Hour Energy drink. Travel about 2 hrs west of Vegas and you'll pay less than $12 for all of same items plus change for slot machines.
The Wizard of Oz will save the Las Vegas tourism industry.

There’s this account on X called Wall Street Apes (@WallStreetApes) that posts TikTok videos of people who are like "I took out a loan and now these assholes want me to pay it back! This is bullshit!" and then the Wall Street Apes account says "Wow. This is literally usury" and there’s like 10,000 replies from people who are like "no it isn’t! What the hell!." Every day this happens. It’s a good business model for click$.
